I hope that this thread does not get moved because I am trying to ask a lubrication question. I want to known what sort of marketing ploy would actually work on on BITOGers. For example, I would make an effort to try a 0W30 or 5W30 that was labeled as "contains no viscosity index improvers". I really don't see a lot UOA evidence that many oils stand out as great or as unacceptible. So, what language, if printed on the front of the bottle would make you switch brands for at least one oil change.

Oh yea, I am not looking for "free" or "less than a buck" or any cost language. I am asking about oil characteristics.

By the way, I exclude GC as from the blanket "stand out as great" statement.

For me it would be.

Oil formula by Molakule.

And I am dead serious about that.

I have tested for Specialty Formulations for a few years now and they absolutely cut no corners.

I guess nobody's taking you seriously. Yeah, I'd try an oil that is marked "Contains No VII's" or something to that effect. However, I, have an engine that doesn't get along well with "older type" VII's. Of course this makes the assumption that there are "Newer Type" VII's. The topic of viscosity index improvers, is not discussed much in great detail here. It's one of those things that you're not supposed to "worry your little head" about, or it's assumed that you know all about them.
Getting back to the original question though, I'd prefer a heavier weight oil without VII's, like a 10W-30. Another nice "feature" would be "Guaranteed not to sheer or change viscosity for 12 months of normal use" or "Certified to retain minimum TBN levels for One year or more". And then my personal favorite, "Will retain the Anti-Wear qualities required by the GMOLM as specified by the system".

I like the "non-shearing formula" idea (I bet that would raise some questions from the general motoring public), but then I wonder what sucker would try to pass off a fuel dilution condition as though it were shearing, that lead to engine impariment and somehow won a suit. It's just amazing how things can turn out some times...which might lead to some refraining from invention or becoming paranoid/"too self-coscious".

"Formulated with highest quality esters"

"Ideal for Extended Oil Change intervals of 15k miles or more"

"Cleans while you drive!"

I'm a newbie in this group, but if I was marketing an oil I would market something like this: "Havoline Plus - Now with Auto-RX" or Mobile 1 EPRX - Auto-Rx Maintenance dose included!"

cougfan, I bet Frank would by agree to that one. I have considered putting "gift packs" together at Christmas for family members. Each pack would contain two filters, a single AutoRX dose based on sump size, and a mineral wash.

95_carvan, Would the standard VOA be sufficient for you or do you really want an ingredient list.

Does anyone think that the Amsoil style data presentation on a poster at the store would influence buyers? What if the data was wear data for specific engines? I personally think that there is a significant niche market for engine-labeled oils.

"FREEdom Emperically verified MotorOil"

No cost motor oil.

Quit changing a commodity like it is something special. Use analysis to set maintenance schedules. Stop guessing/blindly changing oil with unverified engine condition measure, emperical, accurate analysis provided by the best!

Purchase 100,000 mile DysonAnalysis testing for one low price and Freedom Motor oil is provided "free".

Includes kit, testing, analysis, interpretation, and tuning for lowest possible wear, longest drain intervals, cleanest engine internals. All manufacturers warranties maintained!

Know and save! FREEdom oil.

It's green!

It smells like candy!

Good UOAs too!

Just look at what that's already done right here on BITOG.

Is this something that you want to be available or something that is already available?

With a $2/quart mineral oil, 5,000 mile OCI, and 5 quart sump, the oil bill is about $200 for 100,000 miles. I am still surprized that non-fuel fluids are not part of the purchase price for most carts.
