I dont remember a converter by itself weights that much to crush you... I wonder if the vehicle was jacked up when he was doing it and it fell off the jack..

We have had that problem here in Louisville. They target suv..vans and trucks....They just slide underneath with a electric saw and cut them off....and they are on there way...
