Hi guys long time no speak I picked up a 23 Elantra N, it's currently stock some guys run liquimoly some guys run motul both 5w40 does anyone experience with motul products in specific xcess gen 2. I have ran liquimoly leightlauf in my kia optima turbo it liked it but would I notice motul is smoother? Extremely fun fun car btw it is 6mt.

Thanks in advance Graham

Many people on this forum hate on Motul and Liquimoly simply because they're more expensive and don't show any discernable benefits with a VOA/UOA over locally available oil.

As far as I am concerned, they're both quality oils, run what makes you happy.

I have Motul in my Mazda now, it runs great. I have used Liquimoly Molygen recently and it was also good oil, I saw increased fuel economy with Liquimoly.

Again, you'll pay a little more for them because Motul is imported from France and Liquimoly from Germany, but they're both reputable and of good quality.

I say take your pick and go for it.

Personally, I chose Liquimoly based on some things I saw on Youtube regarding smoother engine operation and then with Motul because they derive their oil from higher quality ester stock...they're both worth a try and will not ruin anything.

Nothing actually wrong with Motul or LM.
Let me try to explain with pictures.

EU: All 229.52 0W is more expensive roughly same price for Motul & LM in 0W.

Walmart: 229.52 5qt vs 5L is not equal but still, F*** 🤣
Pennzoil only 229.51

Well Liqui Moly is headquartered in Baden-Wurttemberg and my great-great-great-grandfather Conrad who immigrated from there swore an oath back in 18-something-or-other that he renounced all loyalty and allegiance to the Prince of Baden (we have the papers) so they’re suspect as far as I’m concerned.

And Motul… they’re French for Pete’s sake. Trust me I’ve lived in France, put tear stuff in your car and your engine will go on strike demanding a pack of cigarettes and a few bottles cheap red wine every time you want to start it up.

In all seriousness Motul’s 8100 series oil is a group 4/5 synthetic, at least that’s what they explicitly claim on their website, and they have ester based racing formulas too. Yeah it costs more but so does buying something like Amsoil. Top notch brake fluid too.

I’ve never run Liqui Moly but one of these days I’ll give their 5w-50 molygen a try over a track weekend. It’s gotta be good stuff, it’s green and that’s a fun color. Like the BG gear oil I paid an absurd amount of money for.

I personally run liqui moly in my FL5 and ran motul in my 15 STI per my tuners recommendation. You realistically won't see any measurable difference in oil performance running LM or motul compared to mobil 1, castrol, etc. If you sleep better at night run whatever you want that meets your vehicles specs.

My daily oil temperatures are 180-190F, and maybe touch 200F with some spirited driving.
There will be no difference in wear with my change interval which is less than 5k. If Honda was concerned about damaging an engine from a 20wt they wouldn't spec it. Track duty I'm either going HPL or redline 20wt.

Most 8100 seems to be majority Group III/III+ despite what they claim. Not saying it is bad oil, just that most of them do not seem majority IV/V based on specs and SDS.
That would be pretty bad because “These oils are 100% fully synthetic Group 4 and Group 5 lubricants” doesn’t exactly leave much wiggle room but I see what you mean about their SDS sheets. Interesting

It’s just marketing BS. It leaves plenty of wiggle room because they are “100% synthetic” and contain some Group 4 or 5.

If you visit the German page, almost every 8100 line product has the label Synthese-Technologie on the bottle which means it does not have enough PAO or Group V to qualify under German law as full synthetic. The only 8100s that do that I can see are the 8100 Power.

Check the german motul site, they are definitely synthesis technology (grp3+), with maximum a dash of grp4-5. Like 99% of other oils.

Perhaps, but you still don't trust a "normal" 0W20, gotta be: LM / HPL / Redline...
0W30 for under 30usd seems to be a more reasonable decision in my mind.

I trust castrol and M1, just don't have it in the sump right now. I send LM 0w20 back for a lifetime replacement and it only costs me $24 so does that count for under $30? @TiGeo

I have no problem with both, ran Motul in my GTI and now have Liqui Moly in the Jetta. It comes in an oil change kit from FCP Euro for like $65 shipped to my door. Can't beat that.
