Well, congrats on the Outback. We liked how well our base 2018 was equipped, but now its nice they are putting all the safety goodies for free. My wife also likes the lower roof line to put the canoe on herself. I think they are quick enough as well, my wife doesn't waste time getting up to speed with it and it sees 4krpm for a few "shifts" and then we are at hwy speed and cruising quietly.

Yes it a very nice riding and driving car. Very huge value prposition; something seemingly gone from the low priced sedan segment.
I have not driven a Malibu though. The new Malibu on the epsilon platform over 10 years ago trounced Camry and Honda at their game. But those are FWD.
Outback in sedan segment?
Speaking of bang-for-buck in sedan segment, I think Mazda6 is worth looking into.
I'm sure its a nice driver but No AWD or Utility for mid 20's.
Me, I would want a V6 with a DCT or MT for mid-high 20's to lure me into a sedan and RWD or AWD.
The Sonata N line is tempting with its near 300HP turbo 4 but its wrong wheel drive.
And it tromps the GLI which has recently felt a bit like an engineering mistake as a car on the new platform.

Which is not a sedan. But if you don't turn your head around or look in the mirror, you wouldn't know.I don't know what inspired Subaru of America but they really dialed in a classic luxo-boat magic carpet ride on this beast.
Not just my opinion - though I am a seasoned car guy.
Unfortunately I'm sure the wife will hate it it, I think she is realizing that it is just too much "Uncle Joe" for her. I think.

I understand and I cannot argue the point with you.
I suppose I consider and lump in the shootingbrake, the Avant or the Station wagon as "sedans" its my own categorisation and not proper industry terminology.
I do this to contrast trucks, SUV and CUV.
I only consider Full frame vehicles to be SUV which makes the Old Cherokee an odd duck for me.
Behind the tiller and blindfolded, the thing drives 90% S class at anything under 70%. Remarkable.

Nissan used NASA to design their seats. I agree that they are the most comfortable seats of any car I've ever owned. Others who have ridden in my car say the same. One wanted to get one from the junkyard to put in his office. We've got Nissan Muranos and an Infiniti QX60 (nissan upscale pathfinder). I have been very pleased with the Nissans I've had. Value, comfort, and reliability. CVT? You just have to get the oil changed every 60k miles like the manual says and you'll be fine.

I got it. The way I look at it, if it has 4 doors, it's a sedan. If it has 5 doors - not a sedan.
My 2014 rogue had the most comfortable seats, even better than the "zero gravity" seats in a new altima loaner junk I was lent once.Nissan used NASA to design their seats. I will say I had major issue with front brake shoes binding and killing the rotors. then engine racket issues and really bad fuel milrage.
But even this humble ride has SACHS dampers from the factory and a incredible ride. Steering was garbage though - as are most mac strut platforms with too soft bushings and bad geometry.
Before I got the FORD ecosport, I did drive a new Versa stick. That car made a Yugo seem like a Lexus in comparison.
Terrible build quality and performance. I couldnt even get the hood closed after looking at the engine! Renault/Nissan is Definitely dumping mexican junk here with their economy cars.
I have chronic lower back pain and my Nissan has been the only car I can drive for hours without suffering.

Thanks guys. Sometimes a stone is better left unturned. I went everywhere and bought and sold a lot of vehicles since then. I hold my head in shame at this point.
The weirdest thing was my local Mitsubishi dealer experience. I had purchased about 8 vehicles over the many years there. They were giving awesome no negotiation deals on the new Outlanders. Like $3 to $6 off depending on the trim. Even a cash deal got that price. Other dealers were over sticker for the 2022 models.
I took in my F250 to trade and they low balled me by $8k..
I said sorry..lol I sold that like new truck to a company called Algo
They gave me the best price and they even come out and haul your vehicle away. Great deal.
The young sales guy from Mitsubishi kept bothering me. Come on Jim don't wait it will be gone.
I told him no thanks.
He kept texting me and I finally said that I believed they low balled my trade in because I was white...lol
I had like 10 smiley faces at the end of that text too.
The whole dealership is Caucasian.
All of the people in sales.
Guy comes back at me with this crazy accusatory racist rant that was off the hook.
I called the GM. And he informs me the same nonsense and said the whole ordeal was unfortunate.
Meaning i was at fault. I forwarded the GM my text messages that I sent to the young nut job sales guy.
Within 30 minutes he called me and apologized for his employee and told me it was clear what I wrote was just a joke and friendly banter....Which it was. Every day is drama.
Yeah my fault but seriously...
I never went back. Not upset but they quit giving any deals on the 2022's.

Jim you should come to my Mitsubishi dealership next time. We have just about all franchises at my dealership and I can get you a 10% discount lol. My service advisor drives a older Outlander when he doesn’t drive his old Mercedes and he likes it.
