Saw some old threads about ONLY using ATF + 4 in Jeep/Chrystler transmissions and NOT using Valvoline MaxLife full synthetic.

https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/maxlife-atf-for-4-application.309812/

The tread is locked but wanted to add this article to the thread:

https://automotivesimple.com/is-valvoline-maxlife-atf-compatible-with-atf4/

Yes, valvoline maxlife atf is compatible with atf+4. Valvoline maxlife atf is a synthetic fluid that’s designed to provide superior performance and protection for automatic transmissions, including those that require atf+4.

Then at the end he says this. Did a robot write this article? I"m confuse:

Conclusion

After thorough analysis and research, we can conclude that valvoline maxlife atf is not compatible with atf+4.

It's going to be bad when AI gets smart enough to easily sound like a real person.

I didn't click the article but the quoted CONCLUSION sounds like a robot and thus I'd be distrusting of anything from a page which contained that.

Off-topic: makes me think about a sniper movie -- can't remember the name-- where the bad guy Middle Eastern sniper just wants to chat with his US troop victims over the radio. Turns out he's doing it to sound more American so he can call in more victims, and they never suspect he's not a US soldier. Depressing movie, actually.....

If your transmission requires ATF+4 and is still under warranty, get the cheapest ATF+4 on Chrysler's approved list.

If your transmission requires ATF+4 and is out-of-warranty, the best fluid to use is Redline C+

My question was. Can I use Valvoline Maxlife in place of ATF +4?

I saw the old thread I listed above but it was locked and I saw that article with very strange conflicting info and didn't know if anything had changed. Looks like I ASSumed that the full synthetic would be better than ATF+4 and bought the wrong fluid.

Get an actual atf4

No

I've absolutely no exposure to the subject applications.
Odd, as I know enough Mopar freaks. I suppose their cars didn't leak....or shift badly.
However, I've read nothing but consistent advice to use ATF+4 when called for.

If it's easily obtainable and costs no more, you have no reason to think of alternatives.

I bet ATF+4 is vanishing from shelves just like Mercon-V.

I'm probably an oddball here, but if the proper spec fluid is available, that's what I'm going to use. Ford Type F? Going to buy Type F. ATF +4, buying ATF +4. Even went as far as buying a quart of Dex III from AC Delco that was single spec, not Dex/Merc, because that's what my Mazda3 specs for the power steering.

I don't really care for 'universal' fluids. Usually doesn't cost much more to purchase the proper spec fluid.

Agree 100%

I had run a multi vehicle in my 2011 Ram 1500 with the 545. Specced for ATF+4, 3309, type 4 and it seems WS. Worked fantastic and I pushed it hard.

I'll be the odd one out still and say use a multi.

Atf+4 is a good synthetic(semi?) With a 7.x cst. Maxlife starts at 5.9cst and is rated for a cvt, two strikes against it in my book.

I noticed the RP ATF lists as compatible with Chrysler +2 and +4

I dumped a quart into a 46RE as top-off the other day. Gravity didn't stop working, if that proves anything
