I am looking for something fairly recent, let's say made between 2012-now.

Engine choice? The V6 or the 5.7L?

What's the simplest Jeep Cherokee model to DIY? I am assuming V6 is simpler than 5.7L Hemi but inline 6 is no longer available as I understand and I don't want a 2001 model.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 2012 model with the 5.7 Hemi engine.

Easy to change oil, oil filter..air filter..PCV valve, etc.

It has 16 spark plugs / copper based that the recommend changing every 30000miles...takes about an hour.

There's a ton of room in the engine compartment of the V6 GC, you practically crawl in there. Everything is eeasily accessible and it's a relatively basic powertrain by modern standards.

We have a 2016 Grand Cherokee 3.6L V6. Easy to do oil and filter changes.

As someone else said, there's a lot of room in front of the engine to do a water pump, serp belt, alternator etc if you keep it that long. Super smooth engine too.

If you did mean the Cherokee instead, we had a 2014 with the 3.2L V6. Oil and filter was easy. However it's a transverse mounted engine and NO room to do the above items I mentioned. Again a super smooth engine though.

If you are talking about oil changes in the Grand Cherokee, it is matter of perspective. The V6 has a cartridge type oil filter on top of the engine. You must remove the engine cover, then remove the cap on the filter housing and replace the filter inside. You have to be careful to avoid spilling oil on the top of the engine if you are worried about that sort of thing. The V8 has the traditional spin on filter on the bottom of the engine. I prefer the spin on filter myself.

The spark plugs change interval on the later Hemi's is 100k.

There really isnt much difference on WK2 maintenance with 3.6 or 5.7, both fairly easy.

Diffs have fill/ drain plugs, ditto t-case, oil changes easy, only PITA is the ZF 8spd .

pushing 40k on hemi Overland, no issues, great SUV with quadra drive and air suspension

He wrote Cherokee, but lists engines for the Grand Cherokee..... hmmm?

I owned a Wk (2008) with the V6. It was nice having a V6 engine in a V8 hood. It was reasonably easy to get in there and work on.

Nothing wrong with the V6 except Jeep ruined it with the ESS system. We bought a new 2018 Jeep GC with the V6 in March of this year. Worst "feature" I have ever encountered in the 89 cars and trucks I have owned over the last 50 years. In addition the robust ESS starter clunked and clicked loudly when the Jeep was first started (intermittently). My wife and I could not stand it and traded the V6 (only 1800 miles) on another 2018 with the V8 (MDS but no ESS). World of difference and a joy to drive. Had a lot of experience working on 5.7L Hemi's and don't expect any issues with this one.

Yep..I think you can buy the Iridiums now...may look at that in 30k miles

I didn't know there was as difference between 'regular JC' and the Grand, I meant the Grand of course.

Any pics of the engine bay? Something recent, post 2010 for example.

Oil filter cap on 2018 V6 and engine bay of 2018 Hemi 5.7L V8. There are lots of pictures on the internet of V6 and V8 engine bays. Just Google "oil change video for Grand Cherokee" and specify year and engine.

Have to pull the intake manifold off on the V6 to do the spark plugs. I guess at least that's only every 100k miles.
