Is the era of "Ricers" over?

This is me. My car in my sig is as quiet as a mouse (a large one) until you get into it.

I have been known to spend a LOT of money on quiet exhaust for my cars, even with big HP numbers.

There IS no car in your sig! So it must be a real sleeper... Stealthy!

A 'sleeper' is always cooler than a noisy hot rod...

I like my mustangs to have a deep rumble. My charger is perfect the way it is.

Hard not to like a LX/LC!!! And especially when they have a HEMI...

Inverse oiler filled with mmo,yep.
No auto RX though. Mystic sent me a couple bottle(thanks again mystic) however I don't have anything to use it in since my engines are spotless.

Steve:
As much as I hate to say it I think I'm a hemi guy for life now. Mds is absolutely awesome and the ability to got from 60mph to 120mph in seconds is an adrenaline rush only mirrored by a 1.7 second 60' time.
I'm hooked.

While I freely admit that I have quite extensively modified the bodies of both my 328 and M3, I did only use carbon fiber versions of OE panels (ie M3 CSL) and it was with the express purpose of weight loss, and functional aerodynamics (necessaryat 140mph+ track speeds). Plus, the outer sides are painted w only small accent areas left with expos ed weave (entire underside exposed tho). My Vorsteiner CF Roofs are exposed weave, though, because, well, cmon!

The E39 M5 is one of my favorite cars of all time (as is the E34) specifically because it is "business sedan" on the outside with very little to identify its true nature to those not in the know.

Trucks. The new rice.

Those are 30 series tires. On a 3500

I think they were Winrun brand.

I should have taken a picture of how badly the HID ballasts were installed.
The driver's side HID ballast was just laying there. The passenger's side was stuffed between the radiator support and battery.
There was a 1/0 amp cable with a 250 amp fuse run through a haphazardly drilled hole in the firewall. No grommet. It runs across the driver's floorboard on its way to the back.

The wiring for the underdash mood lights was equally disastrous

+1

I agree. For a daily driver. Or even not so daily driver. After about ten minutes any sort of drone gets on my nerves.

But if I ever have money to burn, I wouldn't mind screwing together a flathead Ford, just for running to the gas station and back.

Couldn't agree more, Q cars are the best.

Same thing on M5board with some of the members. Luckily most of them get ripped on for their ride looking ridiculous and them having destroyed the handling characteristics of the car.

"All show and no go" is how we used to say it in the Old Daze.

I was horrified when my car came in with 20's on it! I have learned that it can be ok if the factory set it up, but so many of my friends have constant issues with aftermarket wheels and tires...

Honestly, I think my Accent would look better if it was slightly lower to the ground as it will give it a more aggressive look. But it's expensive to mod my car as there isn't a large modding scene here in the states and importing stuff from S. Korea can get expensive and tricky as some parts may not fit the US model...

No argument on looks, a slight lowering can look very sharp.

But my car is a great example of how that makes everyday driving more challenging. It's lowered from the factory and the front spoiler is like 3.5 inches off the road. Then add in scraping on even a normal speed bump, etc.

You give up a lot of utility for a little better look and handling, and in the aftermarket it can cause all kinds of issues...

Eegads! Is that a fake 22.5 big rig setup? Are the outside ring of lug nuts attached to anything?

Around here, trucks do seem to be the new "rice". Jacked up on 26" and 28" wheels (even duallies) with dual stacks through the bed (and sometimes, they're even functional), awful HID conversions, and rollin' coal, baby.

There are still plenty of ricer Civics and Cobalts and anything else that is cheap to mod.

Lots of donks and bubbles (Crown Vics and Caprices) on "dubs" with hydraulics, too.

None of it is my cup of tea, but it's interesting to observe nonetheless.

Lol, I know what you mean. Stacks, HIDs, and truck nutts everywhere you turn.

After finishing this whole thread, I just realised there is another sub set "ricers" , Eco-Modders that tape a bunch of plasticore around their car for aerodynamics and move down the road like a rolling roadblock.

I can respect the strive for efficiency and everything, but drive the speed limit.
