Yep exactly. Plus they won't make it available anywhere so they might as well discontinue it.

They did a terrible job making it easy to acquire. Terrible job done getting it on store shelves. I bet they didnt sell much, advertise alot but need to order online to get it...not a very smart plan.

I wonder if Gena is reading this and can pass it along? There are people who want to use it but aren't going to jump through hoops or pay high prices to do so.

Welp, just got back and it is all (and I mean all weights) gone. I asked the WM auto dude and he said they were not going to carry it anymore and even thought it was doubtful any WM would be carrying if for very long if they even are anymore.

I've never understood why it is so easy to get ahold of M1 but so hard to get ahold of PU. Surely Pennzoil is not so ignorant as to understand the need to be that ubiquitous. I'll stick to M1 because it's worked for me and I can walk into nearly any store carrying oil and find it.

The market is what it is. M1 is the synthetic king, SOPUS has a good lock on conventional. Neither have been terribly successful eroding the other's strong hold IMO.

I bought into the Ultra craze first time around. It was good oil I am sure, but I honestly liked the way the KIA ran on Platinum better.

Between the relative success of Platinum and M1's death grip on the synthetic king crown, I don't see much of a spot for Ultra and retailers and consumers apparently don't either.

I used the old formula Ultra a few years ago when I could get it at Walmart, but now that it's gone and I've discovered M1's semi-annual $12 rebate on a jug (a rebate you actually get), I'm sticking with M1. SOPUS lost me due to availability and jerking me around on rebates.

Most, if not all, reputable garages stock M1 (may be along with other brands) for synthetic oil change. Also, Costco only stocks M1 no other synthetic brands.

M1 may not protect the engine better than others, but Mobil marketing is so good such that most places that sell oil always have M1 of various grades.

It's been hard to find for YEARS !!!

Only place I've EVER seen pup is at this tiny old fashioned non-supercenter Walmart that's in this small country town near here. That have it in every viscosity, quarts and jugs.

I asked a tech...after a long conversation about how much research and work that has gone on with ultra that there was no way he thought that it was being discontinued. I asked him numerous times. He mentioned amazon quite a few times when i asked him where to buy it. I thought that was interesting.

I think they priced themselves off the shelves.. Personally i like the Quaker State ultimate durability better for under $21.00 for a 5 quart container but the last few times i bought Valvoline syn because their jugs are more secure with the inner and outer seal and they don't leak like the Pennzoil and Quaker state do. And it was priced the same as the QSUD at the time of purchase. I have been straying away from pennzoil and Quaker State due to their leaky jugs.

I'm really liken the QS Ultimate Durability and the price. I hope mine don't ever leak, so far so good. I think Ultra was made to compete with Amsoil and others for around $10 a qt.

I've never had a leaky SOPUS jug but I sure read about it a lot here. I guess anymore I tend to buy it when I am about to need it so I don't have it sitting around long term.

I heard they are going to rename it Pennzoil Gold and Platinum

I ended up seeing it in two PB stores yesterday, all they had was 5W20 in quarts, and no shelf space for anything else.

You'd think with all the R&D and money that went into the product they'd advertise it more and give the stores an incentive to carry it.

Hello BITOGers –

Just wanted to jump in and set the record straight about Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. We do not plan on discontinuing Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. We want to apologize for the difficulty you’ve all had in locating the product on store shelves and want to thank you for your continued interest in locating the product. If Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is no longer on your local Walmart shelves, the best place to purchase it is online at www.Walmart.com. Walmart offers free shipping on purchases more than $50, or you can order online and pick up the product for free at your local store. Amazon is also an option which offers free shipping on all orders more than $49.

Again, we apologize for the inconvenience in finding Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, and want to assure the BITOG community that the product is still in production. – The Pennzoil Team

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm glad to hear Walmart.com will continue to carry it.
