Guys, since my Jeep recommends Pennzoil so I use Pennzoil's flagship the Ultra Platinum. I watched Project Farm and the Oil Geek on Youtube and they praise it. Is this oil really the second best, just behind Amsoil? Do these Youtubers know what they are talking about?
Thanks!

Also I learned that SRT Vehicles come filled with Ultra Platinum from factory, and dealerships use Ultra Platinum on those SRT vehicles that come for oil change

The GTL (gas to liquid) base stock apparently is much more pure, in that it contains the desirable hydrocarbon chain length molecules, and practacly none of undesirable chain length. This allows the additive package to not have to contain as much antioxidant additives, because the base is less prone to oxidization. Therefore Pennzoil was able load the additive package with more additives to do other things better, such as lubricate, and clean.

Sometimes the product that cost more to make and sells at a higher price, actually is a better product. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum seams to be one of these cases.

Thanks. It costs like $3 more than Platinum at Walmart but a pain to find on the shelves. Autozone and Napa want an arm and a leg so I buy from Walmart only.
So all synthetic Pennzoils are made from natural gas?,

You sure are excited. It’s fine oil. I suggest using the search here before posting threads, you will find multiple answers to your questions. Another member here might help you along but we’ll see.

Also, those YT channels are garbage clickbait content hawking services.

Keep in mind, Penzoil oil is 'clear when processed. They add additives for it other properties & to make it 'honey' colored. If the jug sits on the shelf for long periods, the additive package stuff will settle to bottom of the jug & will look like dirt left in the jug. Make sure to shake it well before adding to your vehicle. Just saying...

SRT vehicles used to come with, and get serviced with, M1 0W-40, before the merger with FIAT where Pennzoil took over all factory and service fills. Then a new "spec" was quickly drafted with the only oil meeting it being this new fangled Pennzoil product that appeared overnight and looked like your plain-Jane API SN additive package blended as a 0W-40.

This is what I was going to mention too, is that the Pennzoil recommendation is merely a marketing agreement with Shell.

There are plenty of oils that would be great in this Jeep, so OP, if you're happy with the Pennzoil then by all means keep using it, but don't feel stuck with it either.

Overnight the company who FF’d the Viper could not FF a Neon…

I used to use Pennzoil Ultra and later Ultra Platinum for several years.

I used to watch the youtube videos of the Pennzoil engineers discussing what a great additive package it had.

On most of the BITOG VOA's and UOA's, it had slightly lower wear metals consistently than other brands (not scientific as it was within the margin of error, but still a trend I noticed).

I no longer own the vehicles I used it in. The PUP oil had more of an amber color to it when it was new, but other than that, no noticeable difference versus any other oil in terms of performance, fuel economy, etc. It got dark just like any other oil nearing the end of the oil change interval. In retrospect, not sure it was worth it to use it. No real benefit that I got out of it.

If you like it and, perhaps more importantly, your engine likes it, keep using it. There are other options out there that are probably just as good.
I've always used whatever oil came in the crank case from the manufacturer. For instance my current vehicle, a Ford, came with Motorcraft 5W20 so that's what it's gotten from me for the past seven years and 200k miles I've driven it.(It's a 2014 and it has 223k on it now)

Could have sworn I read that Pennzoil is now the factory fill for Ferrari??

I hope I'm correct cause that's what I told the last guy who bought my last 6 gallon eco-pak of PUP 0W-20  🤪 (y)
