My condolences. We have two ourselves getting up there in years.
I'm sorry to hear about this. I put my dog down 3 days ago. A mutt from the pound, she was my faithful companion for 15 years. It's never easy.
Dogs always have fun in heaven.
I know it sucks now for you, but he was happy with you his whole life, and he carried that with him beyond.

Yep, it sucks. And it doesn't ever get easier.... even when you're older and have been through it all a time or two.
This is the one reading that I always go back to...

GREAT photo! Our lab does the same! She tears apart ANY ball of wrapping paper as her own. She's 11 and really slowing down now. Sad.
Hopefully she'll last a couple more years w/o any big health problems.

I feel bad for you loss. Losing the dog you love is difficult to say the least.
I recommend all you mourners to get another dog. Rescue one from a pound. You owe it to your departed dog. Men and dogs have been co-existing for hundreds of thousands of years.

I had to have two Jack Russell's put down recently. We adopted Bonnie and Yogi in the mid 90's when we lived in England from an animal shelter. Bonnie lived to be a few months over 16 and Yogi was about 14. Bonnie went blind and her mind started slipping pretty bad and Yogi had cancer that finally got in his hips and he started to suffer. I could and would not let them suffer. We had Bonnie put down in Sept. and Yogi just last week. Both times I drove home from the Vets office with tears just a flowing.
You will never be able to replace you friend, but with any luck you will find another. My daughter got me a Rat Terrier after Bonnie past and though he is not a replacement and a little crazy he has come into his own and is a cool little dog.
Dogs are the best friends you can ever have. They love you unconditionally for their entire life and I guess that is what makes it so hard when they pass.

O my, know the heart felt loss too, Me and the wife still cry over our Golden Barney, and that was 10 years ago. I have a hard time just passing a animal shelter and seeing the faces.

The handle I use on here, Levi, was one of the best friends I've ever had the joy of knowing.
We adopted her - yes HER - fully grown because her previous owner was no longer able to care for her. A large, black and tan Doberman. Naturally protective, but a gentle giant.
She was incredibly intelligent. I swear she knew what you were thinking. Lots and lots of stories. Won't bore you.
Those who haven't experienced what you have, won't understand. But my wife and I do.

I remember when we had to put my cat down...He was pretty big, but a humongous baby! Very loving and would sit in my moms lap for hours on end....That's where I got my sn "strider". It's never easy, but now that I have a dog, I can honestly say that would be 1000x's worse than putting down a cat...Or at least for me...
