I don’t need no stink’n truck!

Blake. Keep your eye on the sparrow.
LoL! That man must have started acting right from the crib! I often see him pop up in all sorts of old films and even the black & white early Tv shows. He was even one of the Little Rascals'. I saw a really strange , quirky classic film not long ago someone encouraged me to watch with him in the lead role. I did not think too much of it. He played a straight laced (wound too tight) motor cycle policeman who patrolled someplace out west? Arizona or New Mexico etc... Film was named : Electra Glide In Blue after the motor cycles they were assigned to use.

I can't remember what I was building, but I needed some lumber and didn't have a truck, so........

LoL..... What is the problem officer? No I have not been drinking alcohol, just been smoking some black African ganja all afternoon.... So , can I go now?

Lol, my setup would be faaarrrrrrr from the sketchiest thing running around these parts. Never get a second look.

I can't find it, but I have a picture of me towing a tandem axle car hauler (empty) behind that car as well. I was just moving it from one side of the house to the other, but it was a cool pic.

Miss that car, only car I've ever regretted selling.

Seemed those were all over for a while and then..................................... GONE.

Stopped by HD to pick up some home repair items including 10 cedar fence pickets… even grabbed dinner on the way. The Malibu has really great trunk space for its size. I haven’t had a truck in years and I don’t miss it to be honest. Just don’t ask me to haul anything much bigger or I’ll have to borrow the wife’s minivan. 👀

Anyone else say goodbye to owning a truck and doesn’t miss it?

I can put 10' lumber in mine. 2x4's and the like.

I borrowed my son-in-law's Tundra twice when I needed a truck (Always filled the gas tank to full when I was done with it). For most things I might need a truck for, Lowe's or local lumber or garden center (soil, sod, rock, etc) will deliver.

Most of the items I buy can fit into the Grand Cherokee or even the GTI especially with the back seat backs flipped down in either.

Don't have a truck but at times I miss mine. It is a 30 or 40 min drive to Home Depot.

I have put 2x4's into my car, resting on the dashboard and going all the way out back. Couple of times I had to open a window and let it sit on the mirror (that might have been for a PVC pipe).

I do regret now getting a sedan. Last few trips to the transfer station had me leaving some free lawn chairs behind that I could have used--but no way to move, not with my rinky-dink sedan. [I've looked at installing a trailer hitch, but... I looked at what it had for "metal" back there and was not impressed.] Next vehicle has to be something with way more cargo room... [I use our CRV to take trash in the morning, then circle back in my car later in the day, just to see if anyone dropped off anything of value.]

Thing is, when I had my Tundra, I rarely used the bed. It was more of a nuisance to use than using a trailer. Bed was high off the ground and even before I put on the cap, I really could not reach over the bed. Ok for moving some sheets of plywood, but lots of boxes? eh.

Certainly large / heavy objects can be forced into a car. Whatever. I have no problem what people do with their own vehicles.

For the sake of this discussion, is it optimal and practical to haul 8' lumber in a small car? Fill a minivan with cement blocks? No, for many reasons, no. One bump could send the lumber into the windshield, or tear a hole in the dash. A bunch of concrete in a minivan very likely exceeds weight capacity, and stresses the suspension. Its much easier to unload heavy objects out of the open bed of a truck instead of lifting heavy objects crammed into a small space with a low roof overhead.

Again, all to their own. I love having a truck on hand 24/7.

I thought I didn’t miss a truck for about 3 years until my new job provided me with a truck. Now I wonder how I lived without one…

I will preface all this with I live in a rural area, if I was in a city I absolutely wouldn’t have a truck. But I’ll stick to my minivan and truck because a car can’t do either of these.. Though now with 4 kids it’s become too much of a PITA to move the seats in the van.

Also the sheer utility of the truck is wonderful… if I had a car I wouldn’t have been able to grab this power wheels I found sticking out of a garbage can.

Yes, this is the big thing the "I hate trucks rent a trailer crowd" doesn't understand. Driving along in my truck, I see something I want, on the road, at a sale, at walmart, wherever, I get it, put it in my truck. Done.

The mulch was a marketplace find, free if you load and haul today only. I had 3 hours before work, the guy was 40 minutes away. If I had to rent a truck/trailer I wouldn’t have gotten all that mulch because I wouldn’t have had time.

And another one… driving home the other night after some pretty severe storms I come across a tree laying across the road. Now I could have simply turned around, backtracked 10 minutes, and been on my way… or hook a tow rope to it and drag it out of my way thus re opening the road for all. That tree is still in the ditch where I left it.

The Caprice has the largest trunk of anything I have ever owned or pretty much anything made after 2010. You can get a ton of stuff in there.

I have had my current truck for 1 year and it just hit 4000 miles. 85 percent of that is towing. I have the boat, the travel trailer and the parade float. Parade float was most of that this year. What I can say is I am glad vehicles can do a multitude of things, but the cars listed here are not good for towing and I towed 25ish times last year, so renting a 3/4 ton or better truck is just not feasible. So, it is certainly a consideration when I buy a vehicle. I think that gets missed on this board sometimes.
