I don’t need no stink’n truck!

Let’s weep for truck owners. Poor tortured souls cannot catch a break in this harsh world.

So what you're saying is you're not able to consider that some people do actually need trucks? I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you. Lol.

Hope you don't get into an accident with that loose lumber inside your Malibu or minivan.

Unlike high performance sports cars, modern American pickup trucks are intimidatingly big.
They're tall and block the view. They're long; crew cabs take the parking space of two cars in the city.
They're wide and make it difficult for other vehicles to pass by on narrow city streets, also crowding bicycles and pedestrians.
And while the high performance sports car can be driven as gently and cautiously as any other vehicle,
the gargantuan pickup is always ponderous, no matter the drivers intention.

So the video goes over the top, but that's how one presents ideas (public speaking or what have you). [And he does make concessions at points--he really is complaining about using SUV's and trucks in cities and suburbs--not rural life.] Couple thoughts come to mind: minivans have been known to be hard on tires and transmissions, and people lose their minds if you suggest towing anything with a fragile FWD transmissions. Second, early in the video he shows a Caprice Classic wagon, which... IIRC was not a small vehicle. Pretty sure it had visibility issues of its own. And was trumped by the minivan for a number of reasons (simply a better family hauler).

I miss my Jetta wagon. :( It would get stuck in the snow every few years (yes I had snow tires) but usually did what I needed. When I ran out of space a small trailer met the need.

Umm, I’ve needed and owned trucks before. Said that on previous posts in the thread.

I rent a U-Haul trailer for $15 for the couple days a year I need a truck bed. Problem solved.

I counted the word "I" seven times. It would seem to me you value your preferences, just like I and many others do. My question remains, why is someones preference in vehicle held to high scrutiny when someone prefers to own a truck? Truck owners are judged by others so readily, but other vehicles are generally not questioned. I never hear "do you really need to own a car capable of 170 mph? Why isnt that owner ever asked to justify his sports car? No one really "needs" to go 170mph, correct? But the "do you really need a truck?" question persists. Its tiresome.

Almost every time we take out our sportscar, some MSB (Morally Superior Being) takes it upon themselves to chastise our choice to own such a vehicle. We also don't leave it unattended, as losers have walked up with a key out, as if they intend to 'key' it. Of course those types are cowards, and fortunately I've been nearby to ask if I can 'help' them, whereupon they scurry away like the rats they are.

Comments on our truck are less frequent, but equally sanctimonious.

You are using semantics and hair splitting to avoid and deflect away from the subject.

Truck owners are generally the only ones that are ever asked "do you really NEED it". If someone bought a Porsche or Corvette everyone would say COOL! Zero questions would be asked about "need".
You are either accusing me of something to be malicious or misunderstanding me. I don’t attack any individual for owning trucks. I even compliment people on this site who buy new Tundras or F150s/whatever. Why do you need to interpret my general ranting of too many large vehicles as an attack on individuals? I don’t look at someone with a truck and scowl at them internally, more so I just get frustrated when the most sold vehicles in the US are big vehicles year after year after year.

Look at the top selling vehicles 2023 vs 1990 and you will see what I mean.

I am not attacking "you" at all. I am commenting on the snobbish attitudes of many that repetatively question if trucks are "needed". I commented that attitude generally does not extend to uneeded "cool" sports cars. Some just want to judge truck owners (not pointing at you). I will never feel obligated to "justify" owning my truck (or my 2017 Ford Fiesta). Its still mostly America. I still mostly have freedoms. If I want to own and drive a truck, so be it. I offer an aplogy to no one. I don't need to google anything. I say people should have the freedom to buy whatever they want if they can afford it. None of this is personally directed to you. I speak in the most general terms. Thats all for me here. Thank you all.

Enjoy your truck. 👍

I agree with Not just Bikes. It probably swayed my opinion. I still wish there were less big cars in the US, but I’d rather deal with that than an angry mob demanding the government restrict people buy what vehicles they want.
