I don’t need no stink’n truck!

Tbh, I’ve found no vehicle that truly satisfies all my wants. I like my truck, but I miss the car ride and mpg. When I get in a car, it’s too small and then I can’t see well in traffic. Get in an suv and I’ll find something to like, and not to like, namely that it’s not a truck. The utility of a truck is wonderful, but heck, just the compromise between a back seat or a regular bed was bad enough (supercab, so I favored the bed), which is a perfect cab for 2 people and a regret for the 3rd. I can see why the 4 door short bed sells so well, because it’s a good compromise.

I will say this though… I dislike FWD. today’s trucks have very well-sorted frames. It took me a while to get it right, but my f150 handles beautifully. Stock tires, wheels and springs. Adjustable rear shocks. Rear anti-sway bar at the gentlest setting. It handles beautifully. RWD is just plain my favorite, and it’s not as common sedan/suv land.

I’ve used my minivan to haul drywall sheets and cinder blocks. Only advantage I see in a truck is keeping the dirty stuff outside and towing capability. I suppose better terrain handling also.

I’ve never owned one and probably never will. Even if I did, I wouldn’t DD it. Use it only for what it’s meant for. That way it would last me decades.

People have need of trucks, I just wish there weren’t so many everywhere. Truck apologists should be able to acknowledge that a lot people drive trucks for image. It’s the same sentiment as people who refuse to buy minivans due to vanity. Too vain to drive a minivan? Well, what you are driving probably is a vain decision.

I’m ok with folks having one just cause. But like you said the made up reasons are sometimes just a little ridiculous. If you want them because you like them then just say so is the way it see it. That is a perfectly valid reason IMO.

I’m definitely not a fan however of the “truck machismo” that sometimes is passed off as a reason. Like it’s an identity or something. You know that whole real men drive trucks thing. My response to those is usually that we should not hold manhood so cheaply as to suggest it can be purchased on a dealership parking lot.

Trucks are wheel barrows with a few extra wheels. Trucks with extra features beyond power door/locks are really man jewelry. Dont say that to their face or they might turn sparkly purple and their jewelry might sparkle even more.

I’m so vain, I probably think this topic is about me.

No, we really need a dually to get a sack of mulch, it is all about impressing the neighbors.
Welp… time to head to HD for some mulch.

With some acereage that I have a truck is a necessity. Only needed a few times a year so I am keeping my 06 F-150. I plan to use it until it can no longer be used or until I am pushing up flowers.

A lot of people buy Oakley sunglasses for image. Or the latest I-phone. Or a nicer house or bigger boat. All kinds of stuff.

There is not a problem with that, is it? Why do so many resent truck owners "not using it like a truck" enough? We still have a choice to buy and drive without justifying it to others, correct? Does anyone really "need" a Corvette? Or a BMW?

Pre Covid I picked up an aluminum trailer 6x12 we pull with Pilot and Tiguan. My neighbor kindly lets us store it under his barn with opening.

My wife finds it easier to swing around by hand so light and attach vs backing up.

Sunglasses don’t pose a safety hazard to others. Statistics are clear from IIHS, bigger cars are safer than smaller cars. Pay to win kind of thing. Since the vast majority of Americans drive big vehicles, driving a small economy car puts you at a disadvantage.

And if you say “so you’re ok with speeding corvette drivers?!” I don’t approve of that just because I don’t like big cars everywhere. I’d feel a lot safer in a big truck for sure, but I don’t want to spend the big bucks to drive one. I don’t want to pay to win. Honestly, I wish public transportation was better so I could just take the bus. Bus wins most of those collisions.

Exactly - I picked an expanded metal trailer for that reason - bring it to the hitch. Nanny features won’t let you move 6” without putting your seatbelt back on 😵‍💫

They make the roads less safe.
