i did my oil change early on my honda and found sludge around the outer cylinder of the filter! how do you open up a oil filter?

The run on this oil was about 5k kilometers with castrol syntec 5w30

My car with sludge wow this must be a motor defect! i do oil changes every 5-10k KILOMETERS!!! honda says every 10k KILOMETERS with a dino oil! i have been using syntec as my username states

If you are driving in cold climates (ie anywhere in Canada), lots of city driving, mountain driving, or multiple short trips changing your oil more often is a good idea. Try changing your current oil at 2500 kilometers to help get things cleaned up and then get on a 5000 kilo ritual.

Also be sure to check your PCV and if your gas mileage has begun to suffer you may have an O2 sensor going out adding to the problem. If you are loosing coolant you also may want to investigate that and see if you have other issues affecting the situation (ie headgasket).

trust me it is not cold here!!! we see snow maybe once a year LOL a drizzle, no mountain driving at all, no short trips. i am going to do a uoa!

im going to do a full cycle of auto rx then a maint. dose, and after that i will do a oil change with 50% gc and 50% 5w-20 PP

Yeah...if you have been doing regular changes with Syntec like you say, you shouldn't have any sludge in the engine. Honda's are fairly easy on oil, so I highly doubt this is sludge, as Eddie said, it is probably just thicker, cooler dark drain oil. Don't worry so much and enjoy your car!

Yea, mix oils, thats a really good idea. After all we are all smarter than the lube engineers.

I agree.... i dont see mixing up oils, especially synthetic brands as a solution to the problem.

Trust me its sludge i opened the filter up. the coolant level does not change too often. i add around every six months

I'm not saying it isn't sludge. What i'm saying is that if coolant is leaking into your oil, it could cause sludge, among other things.

nah the coolant never dips too much i have done many uoa's never shown antifreeze problems! im gonna sell this car and the next owner worry about it.
