The follwoing oils can be considered

AmsOil 10W-40 Motorcycle oil 40dC 88cSt 100dC 14.2 HTHS 4.2 Ppoint -54
AmsOil XL 10W-40 40dC 81 cSt 100dC 14.5 cSt HTHS 3.8 Ppoint -51
Castrol Syntec 10W-40 40dC 98 cSt 100dC 13.2 cSt HTHS unknown Ppoint -27
Mobil 1 0W-40 40dC 80 cSt 100dC 14.3 cSt HTHS 3.6 Ppoint -65
QState 5W-40 Europ 40dC 90 cSt 100dC 14.2 cSt HTHS unknown Ppoint -38
Shafer 106 microMoly 10W-40 40dC 94 cSt 100dC 13.4 cSt HTHS 3.46 Ppoint -38
Shafer 9000 supreme 5E-40 40dC 87 cSt 100dC 14 cSt HTHS 4.57 Ppoint -41

Of these, the Shafer 9000 looks to be closest to the specks you are looking for.

AEHaas:: as to your car running at 165-180dF oil temps in interstate-like traffic. This is normal for a car with the cooling capacity to do 200 MPH all day long.

{{I get similar oil temps in my F355B on interstate runs even in ambient temps of 103dF, and at speeds up through 140 MPH at 5,000 feet above sea level}}

Yes 427, that GC that meets MB 229.5 spec (it's "Gold") is at AutoZone stores in various parts of VA, TN, and PA. So it should be at a lot of other places too.

Thanks, wasn't sure if this was the "Gold" GC, or something new. Hmmm...it's hard to keep up with this "Green", "Gold", "German", "Non-German". Guess it's time to revisit the section for people with a fetish for elves.

JAG - I think we are all very aware that the exhaust runs hot, as do other components.
This discussion is about OIL temps..
Street cars have oil temps from ambient to 230 F or so.
This is well below the 300 F testing of an oil's HTHS.

It's easy to see the correlation between research such as this and the design of the Sequence IIIG, IIIGA & VG tests.

Thanks for that link MGBV8. That was some supreme work that those researchers did. It captured so many subtle nuances in behavior and really highlights that making an oil that does many things extremely well takes some very skillful concocting and testing to base it on.

Mr. Haas, you might check these oils as they are both A3 rated so HTHS is >3.5.

The 0w-30 looks particularly interesting, seems to be cutting edge stuff (dare I say more so than even GC). One of the more expensive oils available from Elf though, but compared to the OEM fill (10w-60) for the Enzo it's a pinch.

ELF EXCELLIUM FULL-TECH 0W30

ELF EXCELLIUM 0W-40

What is the 40 C viscosity and the pour point for the Castrol Syntec 0W-30?

The pour point of GC is -78F.

On the virgin sample of GC that I sent in a couple of years ago, it's viscosity came out at 67.6 cst at 40c, and 12.2 cst at 100c.

I just bought 3 jars of the GC 0W-30. It is now with MB 229.5 cert. on the label. I may just go with this stuff. I want to thank everybody for their suggestions.

GC IMO, is the best 0w-30 on the market. If you want the best 20wt, I'd have to say it's RL.
