you state "... are classified as the same size as the ranger by the government". your source is your GOVERNMENT ! hahaha.you believe what your government tells you about vehicles. just like the EPA is always so accurate on mpg ratings.these people you believe.if, as you state, per the govn't rankings, that the dakota is a "standard pickup", then what is the ram -- a "super-size" standard pickup? as said earlier, all one has to do is look.you are likely one of the few u.s. citizens that believes what a govn't agency states.
no sense getting into a sparring match on this.we've already gone way off of topic. have a good day.
I'll leave the cheap shots that you resorted to out of my response. This is no place for childish comments.
Here's the facts:
The U.S. EPA classifies the Ranger, Colorado, and Canyon as 'small' pickups.
The U.S. EPA classifies the Dakota as a 'standard' pickup.
The dimensions of these pickups prove the validity of these classifications and prove that you're incorrect in your statement.
************************************************************
Standard cab, 2wd models.
Wheelbase:..Ranger 111.5....Colorado 111.3 (variance .2")
Length:.....Ranger 189.4....Colorado 192.4 (variance 3")
Width:......Ranger 69.3.....Colorado 67.6 (variance 1.7")
Height:.....Ranger 66.2.....Colorado 64.9 (variance 1.3")
Dimensions are within a few inches of each other, at most. Classifying them in the same category ('small') is correct as stated.

Now that we've established that the Ranger and the Colorado are very similar in size and are classified correctly in the same category, let's compare a "small" sized Ranger to a "standard" sized Dakota.
Extended Cab, 2wd models.
Wheelbase:..Ranger 125.7......Dakota 131.3 (variance 5.6")
Length:.....Ranger 203.6......Dakota 218.8 (variance 15.2")
Width:......Ranger 69.3.......Dakota 71.7 (variance 2.4")
Height:.....Ranger 66.3.......Dakota 68.6 (variance 2.3")
As we see, in the extended cab models, the Dakota is nearly a foot and a half longer than the Ranger, and the Dakota wheelbase is nearly a half a foot longer.
Obviously, the Dakota a larger unit which is classified differently, and correctly.
Good day, sir.
