Chrysler hasn't been talked too much about on here. My thoughts are that the company was doing great in the late 20th century.... Till it was bought by Daimler Benz, who then gutted the company. I think marchionne is taking an interesting approach to the brands. It is one that frankly, should have been done long ago. Chrysler=luxury brand, Dodge=Low end Cars and minivans, and sports cars. What I DIDN'T think of was spinning off RAM as it's own brand for trucks. Very interesting idea; not sure what I think of it yet. Jeep... Well we all know that Jeep is probably Chrysler's strongest brand at the moment. The new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee looks promising. The Wrangler has always been solid. Maybe eliminate the fodder known as Patriot and Compass, and focus on the core of the brand.

Engines. Thank goodness for R&D. I don't know about you all, but I'm excited for the new Phoenix/Pentastar V6. It looks very, very promising. Chrysler desperately needs a new V6, all the ones they use now are very outdated, with the possible exception of the 3.5L. I believe that fiat's brands will be using the new V6 too, in exchange for four cylinder engine technology, which chrysler also lacks in. But, IMO, the best single thing chrysler could do is take the old 4.0L, and update it immensely. Change it to SOHC or DOHC with VVT, lighten it, and just completely update it. The 4.0L would be a fantastic engine for the company if it was updated to be more modern.

Kind of looking forward to seeing what Fiat can do for them. I have a feeling its going to be very much like what Mazda did for Ford, and what Opel has done for GM. Platforms platforms platforms. Many of GMs new cars are based on opel platforms, and many fords off Mazda ones.

I'd say the Chrysler 300 does a pretty good job on that count.

But, this takes the thread on a tangent that opens the door for GM bashing... and I don't want to go there.

It happens in almost every thread; don't let it worry you.

+1 I agree

"The good cars are the ones that sell"...................
Chrysler closed a ton of dealerships this year. That should say something.

I'm sure that the Diamler execs are privately smiling at each other over how they gutted an American company, then handed it down to a second-rate Italian car maker.

You think they are smiling after losing billions and then having to pay Cerebus billions to take Chrysler off their hands?

The CEO and several German executives lost their jobs over this fiasco.

Yes they robbed Chrysler's nest of billions but they lost many many more billions. Then they had to pay to get rid of it.

FIAT payed nothing for 20% of Chryser and if they turn it around they get a majority stake in the company for nothing.

FIAT will be laughing if they can pull it off.
