HPL July 4th Sale - What Do You Plan on Buying?

definitely not hpl. what is the psychology in paying more for oil like amsoil and this hpl? I personally never used either I know many of peoples along with auto mechanics that never used these brands and never even suggested them.
I don’t understand the psychology of criticizing things you don’t understand.

Some of the dumbest, most ignorant things I have ever heard about oil have come from mechanics. My favorite, “You can’t use that 0W-30 here in Virginia, it won’t make enough pressure when the engine is cold.”

Why would I take a recommendation from someone that stupid about oil?

Why HPL?

Small American company whose focus is on racing and industry, but has been generous enough to tailor their products to the requests of people on this board.

We represent about 1% of their sales, but they are still responsive to our input and requests.

They use superior ingredients in their blends, and the oil can, and has, lasted over 30,000 miles in regular service, see Wayne’s UOAs on his Durango. The engine is spotless inside and still on the road, still with great compression.

Their formulation consultant is Dr. Leslie Rudnick, who literally wrote the book on synthetic oil. Maybe you would like a copy?

Lubricant Additives: Chemistry and Applications, Third Edition (Chemical Industries) https://a.co/d/4XMBBqF

Their lab is among the best, and is featured in Lake Speed’s videos when he tests oil.

They have held open houses, provided tours, and been transparent and helpful in their interaction with their customers.

For example, I needed a 75W for my Volvo manual transmission, they didn’t list it on their site, but they do make it and it works great in that car and in my Tundra transfer case - by the way, it’s 1/3 the cost of the Toyota OEM oil.

There are major racing teams who use HPL, exclusively, because of the HP and performance gains, verified on multi-million dollar dynos and in racing. HPL doesn’t pay them, the way that Mobil, or Red Line, or many others pay, the teams choose HPL because of performance and those teams pay HPL.

All of the above, by the way, has been discussed on BITOG.

David Ward, the owner/founder of HPL is a good man, and I prefer to support him over supporting a giant multi-national.

Make your choice, express your opinion, but inform yourself before doing so.

How many people on here are engineers in everything they post and reply back on? So many know more than builders engineers mechanics technicians

So, which is it?

Do you listen to engineers and chemists?

Or do you already know everything?

If you listened to those who actually are tribologists, engineers, and chemists, you would be an HPL fan.

Again, all the facts and discussion are already here - have you bothered to read what was said by those with expertise?

I will check my stash today and stock up a bit. I have about 5 cases on hand, but I maintain a fleet, and go through engine oil, transmission fluid and gear oil fairly quickly, even with extended OCI.

I’m doing what my old man taught me when I was just a boy and it’s been working all these years. I’ll keep my boy mentality and wrench on. My dads advice and teachings on oil changes hasn’t steered me wrong.

So what am I getting with just their basic oil? I used premium and the premium plus in the past but feel like it was a waste due to draining to soon.
Well, if you drained it too soon without doing a UOA; yes it was a waste. I feel comfortable using their CK-4 oils as we all can see from my UOA’s

I don’t plan to change the 5w-30 CK-4 HDEO oil til maybe 15k or longer.

Cool. I’m glad it’s working for you. My question is: why come into the HPL 4th of July sale post just to say that you have zero desire to purchase any across multiple posts and responses?

Case or two of the Cleaner? What’s your thinking behind this? Not judging at all, just curious!

4 vehicles that all see a fair amount of use, 5 if we include my son. Most sumps are 6 qt which makes it super simple with a 5qt jug + 1qt cleaner.

My truck (‘99 F150 with the 5.4) is the only one that burns any significant amount of oil and figure the EC might be a good top-up oil. Might just help things who knows.

Just bought a Dual Bypass system from Pablo. I have 2 more gallons of the PCMO 5w-40 I’ll use for the next oil change on the Navigator, but I’m going to buy 4 gallons of Premium Plus 5w-40 in an experiment to extend the OCI with the bypass filtration system. I’ve still got 4.5 gallons of Supercar 5w-40 for the GL450 so I don’t think I need to buy another case of that lol.

Dang that’s a big fleet! Makes sense now. 😎

Hey Stude! What made you decide to run the CK-4 in your Dakota vice the other HPL product lines? I’ve noticed that several folks have chosen the HDEO over the others in their gas trucks. I think it was wwilson with the Durango for 30k mi using HDEO? I’d been mulling over that or the PPPCMO for the Navigator (5.4 V8) and wanted to get some takes on it. I was going to just go with the Supercar, but the higher TBN of the PPPCMO and HDEO lines have me interested for the longer OCIs.

I think I’m good…and running out of shelf space.
It's your lucky day (and you didn't even know it)! Home Depot's daily special is garage cabinets and storage.

Will anyone be in-house for odd-numbered orders? Will likely get 9 quarts of premium CC CK4 5w40 if so. If not, I’ll get 12 quarts and 2 gun cleaning/lubricating kits.
