HPL 0W-20 or 5W-20 question

Moving up a grade on my end has to do more with spirited driving behavior and seasonal weather. But also my engine is a naturally high revving one for its displacement size. Its getting very hot here in a couple of weeks where we even get high 70s - 80s Fahrenheit ambient in 5AM in the morning. As for choices, its a hard one, the regular PCMO has an impressive 4.28 HTHS viscosity where as the HDEO Premium and Supercar are in the low border 4 range with higher SAPS. Not sure if they will make a difference but doesn't hurt to have a little extra safety factor.

This is the PDS of the HPL No VII. I don't understand how the Euro 5W-20 has a HTHS of ~3.27 while the Euro 10W-20 has an HTHS of ~2.8. If we look at the PCMO 0W-20 vs 5W-20, we see their HTHS is almost the same.

I would have loved to go with the 0W-30 or 5W-30 but I'm still under warranty. Although that oil is allowed in other countries with same engine. I live in the North East.
Is the Supercar VW502 etc. better than the Dexos additive package?
Dude, you don't need warranty for that 2.5L in your Rav. It is meant to last forever. I have that motor in my Sienna and I am at 200k miles(On Mobil 1 0w16). Fellow Sienna owner hit 385k. 30 grade is not necessary but you can run your favorite oil if you want. Just change the oil and filter regularly. That Super Car Overkill oil is cool.

I purchased HPL Premium Plus 5W-20 for my 23 RAV4 Hybrid for summer usage. I thought it was going to offer more protection than the same oil in 0W-20. But now looking at the spec sheet it looks like the 0W-20 is a little higher viscosity but the 5w-20 offers a tad more wear resistant. Is the 0W-20 actually better?

I’ll tell you what occurred in my case. No, I don’t own a RAV4 Hybrid.

I have a ‘22 Ford Maverick Hybrid with the 2.5L engine. I dumped the standard fare dealership’s Motorcraft 0W20 early. Replaced it with HPL no VII Euro 5W20. Immediate impressions were reduced noise and vibrations whenever the transition to the gas engine occurred. The difference was quite apparent. Fuel mileage is still upper 40’s to low 50’s in these moderate temperatures.

For comparison, the only other motor oil that came close to smoothing out this engine like this (that I have tried), was Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5W20. Now, I have put over 210,000 miles on the same 2.5L Hybrid engine before, in my previous vehicle (100,000 miles each on a diet of Motorcraft Full Synthetic 5W20 & Mobil 1 0W20 EP). That was a 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid.

NYC cabs have been known to put 500,000-600,000 miles on these Ford Escape 2.5L engines - so it probably doesn’t matter what motor oil used in these engines.

I have 6 quarts of HPL Supercar 0W20 sitting patiently on the shelf, waiting for their next oil change interval change. I can’t imagine it replacing my new favorite, HPL no VII Euro 5W20.

Give one of the ones I mentioned a try, to see if your impressions agree with mine. Good Luck!

Warranty on that 2.5L? Hahahahahaha! That thing doesn't need warranty. Take it from me, 500,000 miles minimum on any name brand oil. Nothing wrong with HPL if you can afford it and it seems you can. The thicker oil will surely help you if you are a short tripper. Regularly change your oil and filter and forget about the warranty.
Your 23 Rav4 and my 21 Sienna share everything except the body. This thread will help you. There are more things you need to service than just the engine.

I had a somewhat similar thought. My Honda takes 0w20 but I want to use the standard HPL 5W20 to save a few bucks over their lowest priced 0w20.
