How stable is your job?

Since you & Pablo live moderately close, why don't you two meet up and duke it out. Have someone put it up on YouTube for us to observe.

I sell insurance full-time and currently work part-time for a company that specializes in imaging equipment (X-ray, Cath labs, C-arms, portable X-ray machines, etc..) and I am seriously considering a career change into contracting full-time for this imaging company, theres never a shortage of work and the money is very good.

For those looking for a government job (or ex Military Vets) looking for work, try....

Retired is stable as long as your pensions are coming from reliable sources. So far so good.

My investments are down 25% but I wasn't a greedy Wall Street lottery player. I think there is a whole generation of day traders/gamblers who if they aren't smarter are at least in pain and might eventually learn something from this mess. But prolly not...

Doesn't flush.

Let me tell you a little well known secret on the H1B advertisement: the government said that you have to post ad on 3 well known sources (newspaper, etc) and keep track of why you couldn't hire those people who applied.

But they didn't tell you where to put advertisements. So you get an all English ads looking for a software engineer in a Vietnamese newspaper, Religious group sponsored newspaper, Chinese newspaper, etc. And most people know not to bother because they have friends who applied and were rejected for "not qualified, over qualified, not the right fit" etc.

Those who got in, were rejected because they don't know a particular skill that the company is looking for and this in house applicant already has (like some internally developed technologies, speak Hebrew, can work on a Sunday to Thursday schedule, etc).

Fair wages can have a wide range, and those who underpay usually either make the staff part time but unpaid overtime, locate at the border of a region that doesn't pay as well as the high pay area (i.e. Livermore instead of San Jose), drop the rank of the employee (a senior engineer instead of a principle engineer), or just pay at the lower end of the acceptable scale (a range has 30k difference and he is paid 90k instead of 110k a year).

Want to know more loophole? Let me know.

That's the problem, they already HAVE met - and see how much they battle online? It's really not setting a good precedent for meeting BITOG folks.

Going off on a tangent, although related to the OP.

BIL is an accountant...was laid off, and didn't work for 7 months, because he couldn't find a job in his field...did nothing until an accounting job came up near his home.

Service station over the road from work is run by Indians. There were two Indian guys working there on weekends, stocking shelves, and taking payments.

One weekend there was one...the other had gone to Tasmania for a job interview, which he succeeded in, and he moved.

Turns out he was a doctor, working at a gas station until what he really wanted to do turned up.

There's no shame in an honest day's work.

You should look up what Robert Heinlein wrote about "honest work."

EDIT: I'll save you the trouble. I think I remember it well enough to quote:

Before and after school he had to do chores on his family’s farm, which he hated, as they were what was known as “honest work” –- meaning hard, dirty, inefficient, and ill-paid–and also involved getting up early, which he hated even worse.

Well, milking cows and goats, shoveling manure, plowing the field, loading bales of hay, wrestling pigs, getting ghonnorea from riding the tractor* -- that sort of thing, I suppose.

*See Seinfeld

Sprintman,

I don't know your situation or the conditions, but you may want to consider a fresh, new look resume, a servant's attitude, etc.

Mail me with your situation if you're interested and we'll discuss more. It works.

He'd still be trying his karate [censored] on me with a shotgun blast to the chest.

Just kidding. Actually, I'm about the most passive person you will ever meet - I haven't been in a fight since 7th grade. Mark doesn't bug me in the least in person. It's his knee jerk, predictable responses to my posts that frost my cookies. He rarely responds to others in the same way. It's pretty silly, but at some point it just became stupid and I had to speak up. The only posts of mine he doesn't respond to are the obvious baiting posts......

MarkC IS a really nice guy. He found shelter for me in a time of need, he helped me move some furniture. For this I am grateful. He never asked for anything in return. I attended a couple services at his church when I was living away from my family. I have nothing against the guy. There was a point when I would have considered asking him over for dinner, but then he went weird with the post responses. I know his viewpoints differ, so be it. No need to twist to every post of mine to get a point across - even in this thread - he twisted my post. Oh well. Live and let live.
