Unless the school goes under, or unless the school decides to close the department, I think I'll be okay.
As many of you know, however, I DON'T WANT TO STAY IN THE SWAMP. So I'm even more frustrated at the job market than I was a year ago. I send out lots of resumes for jobs I'm fit for, and yet never hear a word. I suspect they're only hiring local people.
Tulane? Xavier? Loyola? Holy Cross? Notre Dame Seminary? New Orleans Theological Seminary?

As for the federal jobs, I suspect most of those will go to "under-represented" minorities and women. (Maybe I need to fib a bit. Is "Ruthenian" an ethnicity? If not, can I make it into one?)
That's going to vary from agency to agency and office to office. Some HR folks in the govt DO take diversity seriously to the point that they are a walking lawsuit waiting to happen. I have been on a panel or two where the official word was we had to pick a minority or woman. But by and large, the biggest advantage anyone can have in applying for a federal civilian job is to be a veteran. Wartime/peacetime, it doesn't matter.
