How good in comparison is Quacker State oils,A friend of mine just put in the semi-synt,,suv 10w-30 in a 1.8 Suziki suv,,there seems to be a bit of lack of experence of Quacker State oils in general,,some say its lower class Penz,,,are their lubes OK or what is the feelings out there,,,,,,,,,,,BL

For PCEO, I would probably rank them in this order, in terms of quality: 1) Amsoil, 2) Mobil 1, 3) Valvoline Max Life Synthetic, 4) Pennzoil Platinum, 5) Castrol Syntec, and 6) Quaker State Synthetic. If you change your oil every 7,500 miles or 6 months with any of these oils, you should do just fine. Since all of these are fine synthetic oils, I can easily be persuaded to buy one over the other, based on price.

I ran regular QS 5w30 and AZ Deutch (Champ) filters in a Suzuki Esteem w/1.6l for 3 years 36k on 3k OCI w/o any issues. This was '98-'01.

Today I would go with Trop-Artic 5w or 10w30. At $1.12 it is hard to beat!

I am not an oil expert, but in looking for a good oil for my suburban, I discovered that the specifications listed on the product data sheet for the Q 4x4/SUV made by Quaker State are as good or better than any other Semi Syn. Specifically the GM 4718 Corvette High Tem Spec. I havent found any other Semi Syn that has this spec listed on their data sheet. Most full syn have that they meet this spec.

There really isn't such a thing as bad oil, but rather bad value. QS is good, and fairly cheap. My dad pretty much buys it exclusively. He got 200k out of a '94 taurus with 4-10k oci's.(Yeah I know, it was being abused, but that was before I started doin the oil changes around here.) Engine still ran but the transmission gave out. TropArtic and Havoline are probably a little better value wise for what you get. I've been using havoline in my mom's fullsize van with 3-6k Oci's. But if you find the QS cheap, by all means use it, just change it out at no more than 5K.

QS gets a bad rap because there isn't a lot of UOA's posted here, I'm sure it's an acceptable oil but often you can find Pennzoil or Chevron at the same price (both of these oils have many good UOA's posted here).
