Hot Dogs

I looked up Koegel's. Looks like some good stuff. The macaroni and cheese loaf was interesting, too. Unfortunately there were 0 retailers withing a one hundred mile radius of my zipcode.

Yeah, they are exclusive to Michigan and Northern Ohio. You can order them here for shipping to any address, but they dont have the Coney Dogs available only the Viennas. The Vienna is close to the Coney, but not quite the same bite and flavor. The Coney is only sold wholesale to restaurants and such.

edit....if anybody is interested and wants to order some chili sauce at the same time. The Flint style is a dry sauce much like ground beef with spices, the Detroit style is a typical wet chili sauce with meat and no beans. I prefer the Detroit style myself and it's the most popular in the Detroit area Coney Diners.

LOL, that was dinner for me 2 nights ago! I feel bad for all these folks who never tried a koegel before.

I'll take one with everything, one loose and a side of chili cheese fries please......Man, I'm hungry.

A local supermarket has difficulty selling their allotment of Oscar Meyer's 'Premium All Beef' franks. (I don't care for most cheap hot dogs and won't eat anything with the dreaded "mechanically separated" warning on the label!) Once every month or so, they sell slightly expired packages for a buck instead of the usual $4.50 or so. I buy as many as they'll sell me, freeze them, and enjoy a good 'dog a few times a week.

I like Hebrew National, they taste good and can be purchased in bulk from costco.
I'm a hot dog fan. I have had hot dogs all over the world - from super panchos in Argentina, to sausages from street vendors in Prague, to the holy grail of all hot dogs everywhere - the "french" hot dog in Copenhagen, served with a white sauce in a freshly toasted baguette half. It's just heavenly. Some of the better dogs are also found in Munich at the Hofbrauhaus. I could go on...

I had a Super Pancho in Buenos Aires last January and an Italiano in Santiago Chile last month less than 2 weeks before the earthquake. They are called the Italiano because they are the colors of the Italian flag. Avocado, tomato and mayonnaise.

I missed out on the italiano in Santiago - when I went there, the shops were all closed. I had to stomp across the whole town to find a "cevicheria" to have some ceviche. But the italiano sounds delicious. I should try making it at home.

Scored 'sell by today" H.N. Knockwurst for $1 a pack tonight! Will write up a review tomorrow, around lunch time!

On the downside, the packages contain only 12oz, as compared to the more usual full pound...

Nathan's are good! The only place I can find them is at University of Memphis football games. The Tigers suck but at least the dogs are good.
