Home Brewed Tea

That’s good tea Jim. Better than that nasty Lipton. I can’t ever drink homemade tea because it’s always unsweetened and it just doesn’t taste the same when you add the sugar after it’s done lol. My dad says he can’t add sugar to it while it’s brewing or after it’s done because it will leave a film in the jug lol. It has to be poured in the cup first.
Unsweetened tea is an acquired taste. Once you get used to it, you realize the tea actually tastes better. The sugar blocks some of the crispness of the taste of tea. I don't like sweetened tea.

Get used to it now. Better to start getting away from sugar before the pounds start piling on. And with age, sugar will do that.

Agreed. Once you get away from sugar and you go back you realize
how truly sweet it is. Almost undrinkable.

To me unsweetened tea taste like water it’s basically colored water lol. I don’t see how anyone can drink it. I’ve tried it multiple times just nasty to me.

That is what soda is with fizz and tons of sugar. Same with sweet tea.
Colored water loaded with sugar.
Once you dump the sugar you won't crave it.

Thats what an abundance of sugar in your diet does. After a week or two without so much, your taste buds wake up.

Sugar in cereal, sugar in drinks, sugar in sauces for meat , sugar in breads, its in almost everything. It seems addictive.

Outrageous amount of sugar in drinks, 43 grams in one 12oz serving( THATS 10 1/3 teaspoons!). You should not really have more than 36g per day max.

You drink more than one, you can get a weeks worth of sugar each day!! You are young and burn it off , for now.

Its why we have such a high rate of diabetes and obesity. It starts out when you are young, eating all that sugar, then you become insulin resistant and the weight comes on, then you become diabetic. STOP NOW!!

Just look at what the overweight people put in their shopping carts at the store. Soft drinks and breads and cereals.

Not to be a Jimmy downer...i ain't no Debbie...lol
Go buy a cheap diabetic starter test kit at your local pharmacy...Amazon is better but you don't do Amazon.

Test yourself...it may get scary...
OJ. And fruit juices are no better.
In my case I could eat cake and pie with little effect compared to a few sugar drinks a day.
I don't do sugar drinks but i tested myself decades ago when I did.
Still test today but just to see how I'm doing.
Old folks used to say that stuff will rust your pipes. Indirectly basically true....
You are young but now is the time to avoid those things that will take their toll if you don't dump the habit now. Everything in moderation...

I didn’t know all of that. Maybe I should stop drinking 3 32oz sodas each day 😳. Well now that I have a job again that’s only the case on weekends I only drink one to two a day when working. And I’ve been eating Cap’n Crunch for breakfast the last few days too. Sugar makes stuff good I also put about 6 spoonfuls in my coffee each morning. I’ve tried to cut back on all of this but man it’s just so hard. I do drink 3-4 bottles of water and Gatorade each day during the week. Everyone says Gatorade is good for you because of the electrolytes but I’m not sure if that’s true or not.

A lot people dont realize how much sugar they are consuming. Count up the sugar in what you are drinking now, PLUS the sugar in the food you are eating. Simple starch also is like sugar. So the breads, pizza crust( sugar in pizza sauce too)..

You are consuming a massive amount.

Diabetes is better managed than ever, but its more on the rise than ever. Man do something about it now, while you are young. Diabetes carries with it huge cardiovascular implications.

Change this, otherwise you will wake up one day, overweight and on BP, and diabetic medications. The biggest risk factors outside of genetics , is a combination of diabetes, smoking, and dyslipidemia. This causes endothelial cell dysfunction at the arterial level, then you have high bp.

Try and stay out of the Cathlab!!!

Now back to the tea!

How long do you guys steep your tea?

I generally boil my water then turn off the heat and let the bags sit about 5-6 minutes. I like strong tea, but not bitter/acidic.

I just bought an inexpensive 12 cup coffee maker like a Mr. Coffee.
And grabbed a huge glass pitcher with stainless top with a seal.
Great setup.

You are now aware..you already won half the battle. Milk itself is loaded with sugar. My doc said if I had a low blood sugar episode go for milk first. But i seldom use it except for
some recipes.
Don't freak over it but understand it isn't good for you. I call sugar... Rat poison.

Black tea from Nepali for ice tea? I'm interested in doing that, how do you brew it?
I pour slowly boiling water over the tea leaves and steep 3-5 minutes. I use a seasoning ball as a large tea ball.
