I have hit two deer and had one near-miss since I moved to MI in 2003. The first deer that I hit, I only saw a brown blur pass right in front of me, and I clipped him in the hip with just the corner of my bumper. The second deer that I hit was on I94, and I saw two of them standing in the median. I swear that one of them looked me square in the eye, then bounded right in front of me. I jammed on the brakes at 75 mph, and once again just clipped him with the corner of my bumper. It broke a headlight and ruined the front air dam.
I scan the sides of the roads now, and after dark I look for floating yellow orbs 3-5 feet off the ground. Those are deer's eyes, and I actually have spotted a few deer contemplating nocturnal suicide that way.
