Help me pick an oil filter - Mazda SkyActive

The new xp oil filters aren’t even full synthetic anymore so I wouldn’t go with those. The only difference now is the micron rating. Wix is 95@20 and the XP is 99@25
Where are those efficiency numbers coming from? Wix doesn't show any efficiency info on their website for the XP that I can find. O'Reilly Auto Parts says the XP is 99% @ 35 microns. O'Reilly doesn't show any efficiency info for the regular Wix, but the Wix website still shows some beta ratio info that is indeed 95% @ 20u

I’m in the middle of an oil change right now.

Went to napa(we only have one) and they don’t have Altrom filter. Be Tuesday or like a five hour drive.

Man I guess it’s normal for GDI oil changes to smell like gas a lot? That’s new for me. We do mostly short trips 6-7 miles one day (car does get full warm) but not a lot of freeway trips.

Might have to settle for a wix or purelator.

I had settled on the OEM filter but that’s not working today , nobody has the good version.

The cheaper one has no metal insert and just plastic holding the filter element (super cheap looking)

Might just put the OEM filter back on car only has 650 miles.

We will see.

Yes, GDI engines used for short drives certainly can dilute the oil with fuel.

What other auto parts stores do you have around you. Any Walmarts? Could go gung-ho and get a Fram Endurance if they spec one.

Man I feel stupid now. I went to change oil. I got the filter from the dealer for this 600ish mile oil change.

Dealer Filter: PE01-14-302B-MV

Filter on the car (Vastly different looking on the inside) PE01 14 302B TokYo Roki Co LTD made in japan.

When everyone was saying mazda roki filters I assumed that is what I was buying the dealer.

Now I understand what people were saying. (sometimes you got to spell it out for me)

These are NOT the filters I want.

I can't believe the dealer sold the wrong filter. (well I can cause dealers are super horrible)

Called the dealer back told them they sold me the wrong one. They don't have the ROKI and stock and it would be like 5 days, and they only use the value filter.

@Krieg I could not get the website to work?

I ordered 10 filters from mazda swag, but bet they are yet again the wrong filter so will have to call an cancel that.
The MV indicates it is the Mazda Value filter. The factory replacement filter is 1WPE-14-302. They did not sell you the wrong filter, just one of the 2 options. FWIW we don't carry the MV filters.

My "OEM? filter was made in the USA and didn't have the metal sleeve in the filter just plastic.

I ended up going PBL14610 (Purolator Boss).

The amount of GAS in the oil on GDI will take some getting used too.

Think you're saying it had a nylon eCore center tube instead of a metal center tube - ??.

Nothing really wrong with an eCore center tube.

Not a reply to your oil filter question, but I am considering a Mazda CX-5 non turbo for my wife. She currently drives an Acura RDX with the 3.5 V6, with plenty of pep. It seems to me that a 2.5 4 cylinder in a mid-sized SUV is undersized. Does yours feel underpowered?

To the OP, they did not sell you the wrong filter. The MV is just the value line (made in Mexico I believe.). No issues running this filter.

Edit: Oops, someone already said that above. Sorry for the double post.

I’m used to driving 4 cylinders. The hybrid that is coming (I just missed sadly) will have more HP.

If you’re used to a v6 and require that feel I would stick with a v6.

Sorry I misquoted lol I stand corrected

I guess I never seen any oil filter in my life that was not metal on the inside. (been changing oil for a good while too)

Need to do some longer drives to evaporate some of the fuel out of the oil.

I really wanted to do avoid GDI but super hard to do (maybe 2023 4runner, but they were too expensive).

Most all my trips in this car are short. Some are 1.5 miles one way, and the longer trips are 6-7 miles one way. The TEMP gauge is hott, but I guess the oil needs to get up to another temp to burn the gas off. (maybe I should switch to 5-30W seen where quite a few people do this and the manual states you can)

If I do get on the freeway its usually in the other car.........

It just seems their are millions of people with GDI cars in cities. I wished they would just go back to port injection on every single car, I can't tell the "gas savings" of GDI. I can't easily change where I live, or the places I go. Seems silly to drive out to the freeway once a month to drive it 30 miles back and forth just to help the Oil dilution. Seems like just a bad design. I understand they do GDI to meet CAFE standards. My 2024 Mazda really don't get much if any better gas MPG than my older CRV. (port injected).

My plan is to change the oil every 3500-4500 and hope for the best, I hope the fuel dilution don't' cause me an issue.

Any input on the FRAM endurance vs the Boss I"m using?

Trying to find the PBL14610 equivalent for the Fram endurance?

Maybe I should just buy a stack of the ROKI's they seem to be good.

To be honest, at an OCI of 3500-4500 miles, probably won’t matter much. I have a handful of the OEM MIJ Roki filters plus a couple of the MV Mazda filters. Plan to just do 5K OCI going forward. Once I run out of OEM’s, I have a bunch of Premium Guards, which are fine for 5K.

Looking at some used Mazdas for my son. Once we find one, it will get the premium guard filters and probably Kirkland synthetic. 5K OCI.

Mazda SkyActive Engine non turbo 2024 CX-50 2.5

WIX Oil Filter - 51356

WIX XP Oil Filter - 51356XP

Was thinking of trying one of these WIX filters if they will fit length wise, they are longer. I read something about flow rates and this engine and that the non XP had better flow, while the XP had better filtration.

OEM filter I know might be the best best, cause its about half the price of the WIX.

I been using PP for a while in my other cars. I think this one I'm going to use PU or leaning heavily toward the Valvoline Extended Protection. (I like the easy pour bottles that most have too).

I plan on doing OCI 3500-4500 miles 2x a year. (honestly think with this OCI any filter will be ok)

Urshurak776 or

HemiBenny

do you have any feedback on what you use?

I"m at 600 miles and about to do my first break in oil change soon.
Go for a cheap oil filter you'll have to change oil in 3-6 months anyways . Mazdas are excellent vehicles, had a Mazda rx7 and a 626 neither had any problems.

I'll trade you your Mazda for my Ford 😆

Value filters that I know of have the suffix ‘A’. I am about to order from Mazda Swag myself, couple filters, etc. We bought our CX-5 from that dealer. I got my first oil change from them and they used a value filter but they sell the real ones over the counter. I usually buy filters from dealer close to home when I get tires rotated.
