WIX Oil Filter - 51356

WIX XP Oil Filter - 51356XP

Was thinking of trying one of these WIX filters if they will fit length wise, they are longer. I read something about flow rates and this engine and that the non XP had better flow, while the XP had better filtration.

OEM filter I know might be the best best, cause its about half the price of the WIX.

I been using PP for a while in my other cars. I think this one I'm going to use PU or leaning heavily toward the Valvoline Extended Protection. (I like the easy pour bottles that most have too).

I plan on doing OCI 3500-4500 miles 2x a year. (honestly think with this OCI any filter will be ok)

do you have any feedback on what you use?

I"m at 600 miles and about to do my first break in oil change soon.

We have that same engine in our 2021 CX-30 and I've run Supertechs, Frams, Premium Guards, Purolators without issue.
I've also ran just about every 0w20 synthetic and one or two 5w20 synthetics sold at Walmart including PP, QS, M1, and Idemitsu that I bought on 'Clearance' at AA. The 'Skyactiv' 2.5 doesn't appear to be picky. My daughter puts about 20K a year on this car so the oil gets changed about every 4 months which works out to 5K minimum to 7K maximum OCI's (depending on the availability of the car to do the OC). It doesn't burn a drop of oil and looks spotless through the oil fill hole. She'll hit 60K this summer and I plan on running a quart of HPL EC30 with the next change even though it looks great as is (because I bought the EC30 and want to inspect the filter after running the cleaner.). I did replace the rear diff fluid at 26K (it looked great when drained) and did a D&R of the ATF @ 37K using Aisin FZ blue (the OE stuff looked fine but was no longer blue....it had turned yellowish).

My inlaw is the original owner of a 2015 CX-5 with this engine that now has 219K and I doubt it's ever had a Mazda OE filter since it was new. I've been changing her oil for the past few years and it's usually 6 to 8K when she gets it to me. It seems to need about 8 ounces of makeup oil about halfway through the OCI but still runs great. I put Autolite XP plugs in it a few years ago (about 175K IIRC) and they are working fine. I also changed the coolant back then using Pentosin A2 concentrate. I'm not sure if the ATF or rear diff have ever been changed but I'm not going to do it now and be responsible if anything bad happens afterwards.

For a 3500-4500 mile oci, why not run the endurance/ultra xg6607? For a short oci like that, i don't think a longer filter does anything for you.

I'd stick with the Japanese Tokyo Roki filter. I purchase 6 at a time from amayaya.com, just under $10.00 each. But, I have the Turbo with variable displacement vane pump. So bypass pressure is around 20 psi.

WIX XP gets my vote. XP was wire backed at least in 21' from a WCW video. I do know that they some XP's are migrating to Purolator Boss poly reinforced media on some of the old wire backed ones. Not sure if this one would or not though. Basically, if it is you could search for Boss if it's cheaper since probably the same filter w/different paint job.

I use Purolator

I went and bought a handful of OEM filters when I got my wife the 2024 CX-5. I also grabbed some premium guard filters. Running a premium guard PG4612 right now. Changing oil this weekend (4,000 mile OCI) and will cut open. Plan to go 5K from here on out. Got two 5QT jugs of PP 0W-20 for next two oil changes. If I wanted a bigger filter, the 7317 and equivalents would fit the bill. At 4-5K intervals, shouldn’t matter to be honest. Your engine should be clean even with smaller filter. That’s my take anyway.

The new xp oil filters aren’t even full synthetic anymore so I wouldn’t go with those. The only difference now is the micron rating. Wix is 95@20 and the XP is 99@25

Man I feel stupid now. I went to change oil. I got the filter from the dealer for this 600ish mile oil change.

Dealer Filter: PE01-14-302B-MV

Filter on the car (Vastly different looking on the inside) PE01 14 302B TokYo Roki Co LTD made in japan.

When everyone was saying mazda roki filters I assumed that is what I was buying the dealer.

Now I understand what people were saying. (sometimes you got to spell it out for me)

These are NOT the filters I want.

I can't believe the dealer sold the wrong filter. (well I can cause dealers are super horrible)

Called the dealer back told them they sold me the wrong one. They don't have the ROKI and stock and it would be like 5 days, and they only use the value filter.

@Krieg I could not get the website to work?

I ordered 10 filters from mazda swag, but bet they are yet again the wrong filter so will have to call an cancel that.

The filters installed at the factory are different than the OEM filters the dealership sells.

If I'm not mistaken, MV are made in Mexico and WPE are from Thailand
