Before I get trampled by Recco's for other brands of synthetics that may or may not be better (I don't want to debate that), I want to stay with Mobil 1 because it's more readily available locally...

My '02 Jeep Wrangler has a 4.0 engine and 3 speed RH32 transmission. This combine with 4.56 gears and 35" tires generates 3k RPM at ~ 68 mph. Highway use is infrequent at best, but they are hard miles. This Jeep is also taken offroad a couple weekends a month where long periods of 1500 rpm or less under load occur. Since the ODO had 1k on the clock (36,700 now), this Jeep has seen 3k OCIs with a larger M1-301 filter and M1 10w-30 fluid. I use Napa air filters and change as required.

I really want to bump up my OCIs to 8k or more for $ and waste reasons.
at 8k OCI, that would have been 4x$35 = $140
that's significant IMO..>

So which would you go with? M1-301 (or whatever the new 'EP' equivalent is) + 10W-30, 10W-30EP or Delvac 1 15W-40 If there are any other M1 options for me, please throw em out.
TIA,
Matt

Nice Jeep!

My truck has a similar service life but I am not regeared as severly.

What is your annual mileage? I only run 6-7 k miles a year so I am planning on 1 year OCI's (with a 6 month filter change)With SL rated M1. If I had to buy oil right now I would use the 10w30 M1EP for this service.

I'd probably go with M1 T&SUV (Delvac1) as well, but unless you do some comparison UOAs you won't know if that's a better solution than your current M1 10w-30.

Mobil 1 5w30 EP and a Mobil 1 filter, you are all set for your requirements.

I feel 5W may be strained as it's rarely below 30 degrees here and frequently 95+ in the summer.

What is your annual mileage?

I bought the Jeep 11/01 because of a 9/11 related

promo where I got a free 7 year/100k powertrain warranty

41 months/37 miles call it 11k a year.

Will the heavier weight have any negative consequences with higher RPMs? I looked on the M1 website and I can't seem to find info on M1 T&SUV is it exactly the same as Delvac?

I am sending off a couple of oil analysis to Blackstone on monday, that'll give me a base.

Once you get a baseline UOA you should know. I have a sample that I need to send in myself to see if I am safe to go as long as I would like.

The Truck and SUV is a decent formula, I am considering using it as top off to give some reinforcemnt to the 0w30( seeing how I put a lot of load at lower RPM's myself) I have in the CC right now.

Why do you feel that way? The standard Mobil 1 5W30 is thicker at operating temp than M1 10W30, M1 5W30 and 10W30 EP.

My jeep GC with 4.0L engine likes Mobil 1SS 10w30 just fine. Now at 191,000 miles and going strong as ever. If I were to buy a new 4.0L I would consider Mobil 1 in a 5w40 weight after the first 100,000 miles though. Since I use a 5,000 mile OCI I don't see the need for the 15,000 mile oil when so many 4 L engines go for 200,000+ miles on the SS version. God I hope they never stop making this mil spec engine.

I don't see how.

Is that an oil temp gauge I see in there? What oil temps do you see when you push this Jeep hard? If your temps are pretty high (say 225F or more), I'd say 5w-40 may be a safer oil. But again, only some UOAs could confirm that.

M1 T&SUV:

Yes, it's basically Delvac 1.

A number on here have mentioned the cleaning ability of Mobil 1 T&SUV, in addition to its shear stability, which would be great for the 4.0 engine. OK, it is a 5W...

Good looking TJ! I'm running a 2.5L 4banger in mine and run 3K rpms at 65mph w 4.88 gearing. I've had good results last summer with straight Schaeffer 15W-40 PAO Blend. UOA results were again good with a Schaeffer 10W-30 @ 15W-40 mix. Seeing that i'm out of Schaeffers i'm either going with M1 T@SUV or Rotella T 5W-40 Synthetic. My brother's 4.0L runs really well on the T@SUV.
