I have a big stash of 5 and 10w 30 chevron supreme. Its being use on my 91 pathfinder (3.0L V6) w/ 145K miles, I've noticed after 2k miles after an oil change my motor starts to run a little noisy and not as smooth ( the same kinda noise I got when I tried M1 10w30)so I'm guessing the oil is starting to thin out after 2k miles??? (also I've been using vsot @ 1oz/qrt of oil) If thats the case what can I add to the chevron supreme to stay in grade?? more vsot? or a quart of 15w30 delo...

I was thinking about this the other day. These oils give great analysis results, but by the end of a normal run they have thinned somewhat.

I was thinking a good approach would be to add a little VSOT with the oil change, as you've done, then later in the run add the rest of the bottle.

One disadvantage of VSOT often expressed here is that it can thicken the oil. Doing it this way you'd be turning that into an advantage. Since Valvoline recommends using the whole bottle anyway, you wouldn't be hurting anything.

Then again a make-up quart of 15w40 delo would similarly boost operating viscosity, and it would be a little bit cheaper.

I think either approach would probably be helpful overall.

ok, I just recieve my uoa, sure enough the oil thinned out. the sus viscosity @210F is 56.1 values should be (59-65)...i'll post the result in uoa section

LC should help against oil degridation, but just hearing a sound is not any indicator of this. It could be many things. If your not in too cold of climate try adding some Delo to the mix, to start or for top-up.

With the miles on the pathfinder, you may want to try one of the high milage oils,,also check your timeing chain as these tend to be trouble,,,,for oil Schaeffers 10w30 will help,,BL
