Healthy eating....or so we thought....

My job is safe.
"Most of them had already undergone the “knife” or had had angioplasties that took care of their most worrisome coronary blockages."

As soon as someone responds to his work with statements like that I simply can't take them seriously anymore. The statement show a fundamental lack of understanding related to atherosclerotic process.

Honestly just eat whatever you want. I'm tired.
You can lead a horse to water.....

So to sum it all up cheese and lard and salt is ok. Interesting. 🥱🥱
Cheese is fine. Cheese is huge group with lots of choices. Many hard cheeses have lots of K2. Not all are high fat, if that's a personal concern. Paneer for example is extremely low sodium.

Lard is not something anyone should exist on, but cooking in pork fat or other things with lard in moderation are not a death sentence.

Salt is perfectly OK, it's absolutely required for all cellular organisms. Without salt you die. Now. Some small portion of the population is salt sensitive, but usually other things going on as well.

So in total, I think you must be joking if this is your take away.

Yes Pablo I was being facetious. Ya too many “experts” in this post.

I’m just curious why my doc said to add more sodium. I don’t use much lard either.

We buy our beef tallow from Costco in a 2 pack, and the lamb from amazon

Exactly. The manufacturer’s oil programs are so heavily subsidized now that it almost makes no sense to use anything else. But if the dealers is affiliated with a dealer group, sometimes there are corporate brand affiliations.

I don't know or understand in what context or scenario butter was ever "healthy" for you. People determine they are going to consume a thing and then they set about justifying that is is healthy.
The best you can do is stick with plant based "butter" centered around things like coconut oil, palm oil, and cashew milk but you are still probably best to avoid it all together.
Add Olive or Avocado oil to your food if you need fat.

Incorrect

Tell us how butter is unhealthy, because well you are saying it is, correct?
There’s no such thing as “healthy” just like there’s no such thing as “safe” because it’s a subjective, arbitrary descriptor. There’s only healthy or safe “compared to what?” And that will vary considerably.

Compared to starving in a prison camp, Country Crock is “healthy.” It will keep you alive longer. Riding a motorcycle is both more safe and less safe than any number of things that can be compared. Riding one with a helmet is almost certainly safer. But not necessary safe. Likewise for leathers and full gear. But even with a helmet and full gear, is riding a bike “safe”? Well, yes and no, right?

Well a basic formula for butter starts with heavy cream. It's dairy based and has a lot of saturated fat so do you really want me to tell you why saturated fat is bad for you? Among other things saturated fats tend to increase LDL cholesterol which is never a good idea.

Butter should simply be thought of as an additive. You add it to something to enhance the flavor of a thing. There are much more healthy and effective ways to do that namely with herbs and spices.
This is circa 1980s understanding. Did you know that all of the low fat craze of the 1980s and the gov’t food guide pyramid was based on a single study that has never been replicated?

Do you know that we now know that sugar— not saturated fat— is by far a great contributor to cardiovascular disease? Insulin sensitivity—or rather the lack of it- it one of the greatest predictors of cardiovascular disease.

Almost every cardiovascular disease case is first a case of chronically elevated insulin levels where the American diet bombards the system with refined carbs. When we decided fat was evil, the food started tasting terrible to we crammed if full of synthetic chemicals and sugars to get the texture and flavor and still be “low fat.”

Meanwhile, we all know that old person who had bacon and eggs for breakfast every day and lived to a very ripe old age with no statins in sight.

For those interested in further reading, I found the book "The Big Fat Surprise" to be a real eye opener. The author does a comprehensive and scientific review of 50 years of famous studies on saturated fat vs heart disease, and one by one tears them apart.

You can read reviews of the book here:

Deception. Made 'with' 100% corn oil. That stuff is garbage. Synthetic oil is great for our engines, but not for our bodies. Butter for the win. Specifically Kerrygold butter.

Hope you're doing well.
Agree that it is not the best. But cheaper than butter if you are watching your pennies at the grocery store.

My grandmother was born in 1913. She remembers when she was a child it was a delicacy when her father would butcher a pig. Her mother would bake a fresh loaf of bread, then you would eat a slice of it with fresh lard spread on it and some salt.

As a motor oil analogy from a chemist: Polyunsaturated oil has double-bonded carbon atoms which the human metabolism has a hard time cleaving. This results in oxidative free radicals that destroy cells. If you eat plant seed PUFA oils, then at least take mega doses of vitamin C. You want to eat saturated oil (single carbon bonds)...Just like your motor oil you feed your car :)

But if grassy buttery the flavor is amazing funny how that goes

Ever have lamb liver?
I have not...organ meats are too big a leap for me. I love lamb chops grilled, and the leg roasted but I'm not a fan of the fat unfortunately🤷‍♂️
