Its been like two months and the story is the same. At the rate his saving for this job I'm surprised he's got enough money for gas.

I really hope so. Because with the pics he posts and his stories, and his lady friend, and videos of the band she sings in... This is hands down the best Internet troll I've even witnessed firsthand.

That is more or less what I am talking about. Keep it to the Volvo.

Remember, the "welcome refresher" of an enthusiastic guy with the car? ? Well.. Back on track. Keep it on the Volvo, and keep the [censored] to yourself.

The dealer bloke is pulling your chain as I would suspect a water pump change in its own would cost $300.

I'm afraid that the Dealer staff have smelled easy meat and I am afraid you are on the menu.

Believe me when I say most knowledgable garage staff can smell a punter that knows nothing at fifty yards.

One other reason why I wouldn't have bought that Volvo in your position.

They are pricey and complex and the dealers are used to customers with a wallet to match the new price of that car.

Sure thing on that! They wanted $207 for a spare key. I declined.

The Volvo is pricey, but a great car, for sure.

Some are under the assumption that the timing belt is in imminent danger of snapping....

And it's all lies until it actually happens, right?

Being enthusiastic is one thing and we have a section for posting all sorts of pics and videos if you wish so. HOWEVER, you were given excellent advice in this thread and you keep ignoring it by doing your own thing. You say you will do something and then you do something else.
This will put people off and they will see you as a troll. If that happens you may find that any future advice will be hard to get from the really knowledgeable people here.

I'm not trying to be smug or anything, but this forum operates slightly differently than most other forums and if you end up on the ignore list of some experienced posters, getting good advice will become that much harder.

That is true, and these are fair points. No harm, no foul, KrisZ! Volvohead has vanished, he felt I was ignoring him. I think a couple others may have as well...

I don't know how to best express that I am aware of the TB issue, although I do recognize and respect that it is "on me" to get the cash to make that happen, and that a fair number of people will view daily use of the car (not just by myself) as "ignoring advice."

I ask for forgiveness there.. Case in point: I have to go to the store in it now, then concert tomorrow at Symphony Hall, then back/forth to work in Boston next week.. so, my posts are as much about using it UNTIL the TB belt job, as much as after..

And QP, I also am hoping it doesn't snap.. I get what you are saying.

Maybe I will use some Christmas cash for the $1000 for the dealer.. Still avoiding Sam's..

Do you have a credit card? The Volvo dealer probably takes them. I realize it'll cost more if you can't pay it off all at once, but its better than paying several thousand for a new engine if the TB goes next week.

Agreed! It's way too ridiculous to be real.

Also: Maybe you should consider just actually getting the work done, instead of saying you're going to and then posting vanity threads about whatever junk you decided to do instead? Until then, these threads are pure entertainment, aka a joke.

I am also active in my credit repair, as well.. Money is low at this time.. However, I do believe this to be a real possibility in early 2013.

In ANY case, the TB is getting done before the CC (Catalytic Converter, since one needs done and the other is only a fluke code..)

Car seems pretty real to me! Trust me.. This one is a keeper.

Plan:

1. Ramps (to let out/change some ATF also engine oil.. both have A-RX in them)
2. Save for T-Belt
3. T-belt comes before other stuff.

In the meantime, it gets used daily........................

Yet somehow AutoRx came before t-belt, even though people told you time and again not to bother with it until after.

I did have a sludge concern, QP. Now I got the oil and transmission fluid concerns straightened out.. Baselined coolant (pre-T-belt, because it was still old, will do for ATF.

Other people are "somewhat" correct that gas, oil, etc came before the T-belt, as well.. What they do not know is that the T-belt IS being saved for. Am at about $300 for it, so far (that won't be spent on gas, etc.)

I also have done a pretty good job of avoiding Sam's, post-CTS sensor, which did fail. (I haven't been back, post paying him.)

Obviously, the TB must be a priority over the cat.

I would strongly recommend against replacing the catalytic converter until you have confirmed that it is pooped. Cats are expensive. You can have that DTC come back three times in one day and that alone does not mean the catalyst is ready for replacement.

If it sounds like rocks are banging around inside: confirmed.

If timing, fuel quality, fuel trims, ignition system operation, power balance, and exhaust system seal are all confirmed and either the code comes back or a graph of sensor data shows the code will come back: confirmed.

The guys here who know Volvos probably have other ways to confirm a bad catalyst but don't replace it on just a guess.

Your not wrong there.

Exact same thing had crossed my mind.

They have spotted a sucker.

How did you get the steering at that angle, while doing 70??

I was thinking the same thing. Must be some front end alignment job on that thing.

Surefire sign of an imminent t-belt failure.
