Grocery shopping: where do you folks go?

The appearance of a WalMart Supercenter in my town actually created a great shopping experience...at a different store. Albertsons is just down the road, and that place is a ghost town now, which makes for the best shopping. No crowded isles, no carts blocking anything, no lines at the checkout, and no idiots. In and out...it's a dream. Probably won't go like this too much longer, as this won't be the first Albertsons I've seen forced out of business by Sprawl Mart, but I'm enjoying it while it lasts.
There's a Walmart and a Stop & Shop within rock throwing distance of each other here. Walmart beats Stop & Shop on just about everything.
You have to SHOP at Wallyworld, though, to get the best price. You can't beat the "every day" Wally price on oil and such.

Market Basket:
Market Basket is the primary supermarket chain I use. Best regular prices no question on all foods. They have added subs, rotisserie chickens, pizza, and even prepared hot foods in some stores which are all really good and cheap. No question I go there 1st.
Hannaford:
Hannaford is my 2nd choice. As a rule their prices are higher than Market Basket but not too bad. However, they have good sales now and then( meat especially )and their produce is awesome. Sometimes I go there just for produce because it is so much better.
Wal-Mart:
I used to buy food at Wal-Mart a lot but now it is only occasionally at best. Their meats are awful and they are getting to be more $$$ than the supermarkets on pantry items. Used to shop there a lot more often than I do now. Now about the only time I buy food items there is if I am in for a non food item and need something. If I need more than just a couple food items I wait and go across the street to the new Market Basket for the food stuff now.
Shaw's:
Worked there when I was in high school and all my family shopped there. Not these days( many decades and company buyouts later ). Shaw's is extremely expensive now. Easily 2-3 times the other stores and at times even MORE than that. I only buy certain things that are on sale there now. For instance, they run Coke Zero for 87-89 cents p/ 2 liter quite often so I grab a bunch then. Otherwise I only go there if I need something and Market Basket and Hannaford are out.
McKinnons:
Kind of a small market/specialty store with AWESOME meat, seafood, and cheese departments. Too expensive, and kind of far away( 30 minutes+ ), to be the regular market choice for me but I watch their flyers and when they have a good meat sale I make the trek and stock up. If I am nearby I usually swing in for a look too( and spend a butt load ).

Our normal price for eggs is 2 doz. for a buck.

I agree,Alberstons is great!! Clean,not full of undesirables,and their house brand stuff is wonderful. Another favorite store of mine is Tom Thumb. It reminds me of Albertsons. They keep their stores hospital clean,lots of stuff you can't find anywhere else,clean cut professional looking employees,and last time I was in one they didn't accept ebt,so no undesirables anywhere to be seen. LOVE that store!!

I think that is far too broad of a statement. Not everyone with an EBT card is undesirable. Many folks have fallen on hard times and need them. I know people who have them or had them and all of them are good people who needed help. Not everyone on assistance is a lazy slob or illegal who will lower the property values. Many people in the program are hard workers who have lost a job, become disabled, etc... and through no fault of their own need help to survive.

When I came down with cancer and was unable to work my wife applied for food stamps, it got us thru the worse part till funds started to come in. Only used them for 4 to 6 weeks.
Guess I'm an undesirable in aquariuscsm's mind. I think much the same about him, maybe. But as the old saying goes, it takes one to know one!

Sorry you feel so bitter about me, no reason to go to the PM's being as you're so bitter, or feel better than others who are below you. BTW, I'm now in remission and have been for 16 years, I'm within a 6 weeks of being 73 right now.

I didn't mean to come off like that,and I would like to humbly and sincerely offer my apologies. Hearing about cancer hits home with me,and you being my dad's age,REALLY hits home with me. And honestly,I do care what you think about me and I'm sincerely sorry for the way I spoke to you. I wish I could go back and erase that post,re-reading it,I feel ashamed for the way I spoke to you. And how I think about you,I think you're a strong person,a survivor,and I could learn ALOT from you,especially reading what you just wrote back to me (which I totally deserved),your attitude is WAY better than mine frown A HUGE congrats on beating your cancer!! My dad had lymphoma. It spread like wildfire to his lungs and brain. The had to remove the entire roof of his mouth and he couldn't talk or eat anything that wasn't liquid. They gave him a double dose of chemo trying to stop it and he passed away three weeks later,bedridden and unable to even lift himself up. I'll always keep you in my prayers that it stays in remission FOREVER,which it will,I know in my heart
