I'm the 2nd owner of my Grand Cherokee and pretty sure the PS fluid has never been changed, so I'm going to switch over to ATF+4 today. Is the OEM compatible with ATF+4, can I just suck the resivoir and put new stuff in a few times or do I have to pull the lines and flush it?

Thanks

What year is the Jeep? Are you sure there's ATF in there now? My '98 has factory fill Mopar PS fluid. I hear Chrysler now switched to factory fill ATF+4....not sure what year. Why did they switch to ATF and is ATF better in the PS unit compared to PS fluid?

Thanks.

I have a 98 with fac. fill ps fluid. There is a TSB floating around that says to change ps over to atf+4, I'll try and find it. Since I switched I can def. tell a dif. in steering response/firmness. Doesn't have the "ZJ drift" when a 18 wheeler comes by...

Hmm, I know I read that you can switch over, just can't seem to find the paper. It's been working fine since the switch (2k miles ago) and doesn't make any noise.

Please find the paper work as I would like to read it...

Here is a link to the TSB.

TSB for PSF change

Looks like Grand Cherokees are all recommended to stay with power steering fluid (MS5931) and not switch to the ATF+4 (MS9602) trans fluid.

The table lists which model years are affected and which fluid to use.

Thanks for the link. I haven't had any problems and don't think I will, plus it made a difference in the steering

Heres the info I have posted from MOPAR about ATF+4 fluid usage

edit out non sponsor Amsoil link
