Would it make a large difference? The performance shop I use stocks Motul and sells it to me at cost since I know the owner, otherwise I'd have to bring in the Mobil 1 myself.
No difference what so ever. While these 2 don't seem to be the same exact oils, there are some Motul oils that are so identical to Mobil's products,,, well, who knows how Motul pulled that off. Or who they purchased the oil from....Would it make a large difference? Just curious.... what made you so happy with what results? Not trying to be an aSS nor a troll. Did wear metals trend down over a range of UOA's? Extra 2 mpg? Spirit of Subaru Yet to Come?I've switched all my fleet over to amsoil Euro 5-40. From the s4 to the mini s to all 3 turbo Subaru. Every 5k they get a oil change and a bottle of PI.
Try it. You'll be happy with the results.
Glad you asked. I log all my cars to death. Ever since switching to Amsoil on the s4, I get 0 timing chain rattle at start up. I thought I had to pull the engine and do timing chains. Even after a week of the car being off, 0 timing chain rattle at start up. I monitor cylinder to cylinder timing. Now it pulls max of 1 degree per cylinder. Before I had up to 6 degrees of timing pull. Some cylinders pulled 0 some 6. Very erratic. Keep in mind this car has been logged to death ever since I got it and pulls now are done in hotter temperature. It would make sense more timing be pulled now.Just curious.... what made you so happy with what results? Not trying to be an aSS nor a troll. Did wear metals trend down over a range of UOA's? Ok - that last one was a bit of an a$$
I'll remember your name when I do my MIL's head gaskets this weekend.Spirit of Subaru Yet to Come?
Despite being ACEA A3/B4 in a direct injection vs the X-Clean C2/C3? I'm pretty happy with the X-Clean 5w30after this post but if you have a compelling reason to switch to Xcess gen 2 5w40 I'm all ears since that's what I use in my Subaru and I love it in that and wouldn't mind just putting the same oil in both cars. That's what I would use
The oil you are using is a minimum HTHS of 3.5. This is very close to a 40 grade oil already. Changing the oil to the 40 grade Motul is a waste of time and money.
The difference between C2/C3 and A3/B4 is SAPS levels. In basic terms, how much sulfated ash and phosphorous is in the oil. C2/C3 is a cleaner, more modern standard. Should you use A3/B4 instead? Only if you like more carbon buildup.

The only thing stopping me is like said earlier in this thread the A3/B4 will lead to more carbon build up and in a direct injection that's a big concern for me.
I have next to no clue about the intricacies of oil though so I'm open to hearing suggestions.
This is what I'm working off and it makes a lot of sense to me and a big reason I'm sticking with the X-Clean for nowS
Sorry I'm misunderstanding your last line, likely because I'm still rocking back and forth chanting oil specs trying to learn as much as I can quicklyBut yeah benefits of full saps in engines designed with saps oil cant be that great.
I know the X-Clean efe 5w30 is C2 and C3 and I'm hazarding a guess for a DIT performance car is probably a better idea than A3/B4Might be worth taking a look at Porsche C40, 229.51/52 and Bmw LL04 before jumping from C2 all the way to A3/B4. But thats just my 2cents.
Oh **** I missed that completely, I should be able to get it, the shop I get mine from is a dealer so they have pretty much the entire product line on hand. I'll have to read through all that when I wake upMotul 8100 X-clean gen2 5w40 has C40.
See if you can find any of those oils for a good price and stock up

I'd preferably stick to 5w30/40 as per the first attachment since I don't drive it in the winter and it gets used pretty hard in the summer. But it's cool to see all the oils listed like that to make things easier.Shure thing, here is C30 if you still want to run 0W30 as per the manual.

What would cause timing variation based on oil used? I'm not seeing how oil would impact that...it's almost always fuel-quality related. Typically oil temps is going to be the same across a grade so all the 40s should show the same, 30s, etc....based on my logging...Glad you asked. I log all my cars to death. I am guessing the esters in the oil removed a bunch of deposits even though car has a history of being ran on Mobil 1, Liquid Moly, Castrol Euro oils meeting specs. This is going on 1000 miles since oil change.
On the mini s, same thing. Less timing being pulled. Cars just run better.
Both cars show a less erratic oil temperature swing and lower oil Temps.
