I went to a local Autozone today and picked up a couple of quarts of German made 0w-30, the last 2 this store had. The other bottles had a yellow logo behind the 0w-30. Visited another Autozone and they still had pleanty of the German stuff left so bought 1 bottle there. Thought this might good stuff in my 6hp Briggs and Stratton sitting atop my self propelled Snapper Walk behind. My qusetion is this. A lawn mower is one thing but don't you guys running this oil get concerned that the supply we dry-up. If it does then what will you use?
Dave

Yes, it is a concern. That is why I have 40 quarts and Patman has over 50!!!

I prefer Briggs&Stratton lawnmower oil myself. You probably do no good by running GC in the mower.

Rather than go away, I expect GC to become more available.

No worries for me if it were to go away. I like the Syntec 10W-40.

Mobil 1 and Amsoil are all good stuff.

The GC paranoia and hording is just hokum, imho. If the same or better formula gets bottled in the US or Canada, who cares?

Sorry, SSDUDE and Patman. We were posting at the same time. Hope I didn't offend. Hoarding is fine, I just don't think it's necessary.

How would it make any business sense at all to discontinue this product??

Probably not for our climate. I see M1 10W-30 and Syntec 10W-40 for us. Maybe for Canada, the Esso XD-3 stuff. Tennessee just doesn't require a 0W, but if it free why not? Getting GC is no problem here.

Based upon my emails with Castrol, even if the Made in Germany supply is no longer shipped to North America, the new Made in USA 0W30 will be "equivalent", but all I was looking for is an oil that meets VW502 and ACEA A3 specs.

If the good Castrol 0W30 is not around in the future, Valvoline 5W40 (VW 502/ACEA A3) is available at NAPA or Castrol 5W40 is available at VW/Audi dealers.

But again, based upon my communication with Castrol, I think a "Castrol Syntec 0W30 VW502/ACEA A3" product will be available in North America for a long time.

I guess i figured an air cooled (a.k.a. hot running) lawnmower engine would/could derive more benefit from syn. oil than most autos could....
90 quarts at 4.00/qt + Tax.. WOW !!! Thats about 400.00 bucks.

Of course when you need to change your oil look at all the money you'll save driving to the store to pick it up

Not worried about supply, I have about 55 quarts.

I'd still apperciate it if you would not use it up in a mower though.

If they start making it here in North America, but it's to identical specs as the German stuff, I don't have a problem with that, but I'll still do a VOA first to confirm.

Patman, I agree completely. I was using a bit of oil with Mobil 1 0W40, but with GC 0W30, I barely use any at all in my '01 Audi A4 (2.8L V6); translation, I really like the product and hope to be able to get it long-term.

Ein Rasenrasenmäher? Mein Herz, mein Herz. Wie die Elfe weinen müssen! (A lawn mower? My heart, my heart. How the elves must be crying!)

You guys crack me up. But here was my thinking... If you run dino 10w-30 in the mower it is prone to burn off because of voality(?) the air cooled engine is just to hot for it. If you run straight 30wt dino and start your engine below 40f it could damage it. I do use my mower in the colder weather to mulch up the leaves. Can see my thinking with the GC 0w-30 that really is more like a 40w. I will only have to do 1 oil change a year. AND I really dig that crazy green color.

I may have to try this stuff in my 5.4L V8.

The fantastic consumption feature of GC sorta contradicts the whole "Zero-W oil is toooo thin" supposition.

Even though I've never liked the idea of using 0w or even 5w oil in anything but very cold climates, I'm not so stubborn that my opinion can't be changed.
I'm going to give GC a try in my WRX at the next oil change (next month) and will have a UOA done to see how it compares to the 10w30 that I normally use.

"Rasenmaemaschine" und "Elfe" sind falsch buchstabiert. Wo haben Sie Deutsch gelernt?

Why the 0w/ oil in the great state of Texas? You must be a vegetarian

A 10w or Straight 30 or a 15w/40-50 would be more suitable.

Hopefully we will continue to see the same oil here regardless of where they are getting it from. I would not put to much faith in Castrol claiming the specs will be the same. They aren't. I was going to try and locate this oil but after hearing that it migh no longer be shipped from Germany leaves me cautious. Might just stick with something else.
