How Old Is Your Lawn Mower(s)?? And How Many Hours Approximately?

I have a 1996 Lawn Boy Gold Series push mower that I bought new in 1999 with the F-Series two stroke motor. I run it about 10 hours a year now since I mainly use my landfill-scavenged Toro Super Recycler (2007) with a new in 2023 Briggs 725EXi motor. The Toro gets about 20 hours per year and is my main mower and I highly recommend Briggs & Stratton push mower replacement engines. My rider is a Troy Bilt (MTD) from 2018 that I only use in the fall for leaves and it's down right now for a camshaft. It has a Briggs 17.5 Intek which I don't recommend because I've had problems with the cam decompression and the Nikki carburetor leaking fuel into my motor.

1996 was 3 years old but still new? Must have been sitting around for a while.

It was. I was just looking for a blade for my 1989 F-Series and saw that and bought it on the spot. The dealer was a go cart place so mowers were just a sideline. The place was in Mechanicsville, VA next door to Bruce Auto Parts junkyard. I got lucky on that. My wife yelled at me for spontaneous spending but I have the mower (and wife) to this day over 26 years later.

Good notes, thank you.

Found a picture of my Lawn-Boy 22260 from right after I fixed it up.

lawnboy commercial models are the most overrated mowers out there. i have a whole fleet of them and nothing but continuous problems with them. i use commercial snappers and toros now and a john deere 14sc. the lawnboys look the part but thats as far as they go in my book

Always liked the commercial LB fuel tanks size. Nice work & what year would that be? 80's?
Thanks, I believe it’s around a 1998.

I’ve had quite the opposite experience with them.

I decided this spring that I wanted to downsize from my Cub Cadet 3235. It’s been a great machine, it’s just gotten a bit cumbersome for my yard, so this past week I sold it and picked up a new(er) machine. It’s a John Deere X310. It has a more manageable 42” deck, but still has power steering and power deck lift. Has a Kawasaki engine, serviceable transmission and came with a bagger and a snow plow. Doubt I’ll use the plow as this thing isn’t really meant for pushing snow, but it’s nice to have it regardless.

I have same mower ( ours is 60 inch deck) and engine. We use it as a backup but use it on one lot every week to keep it ready to use should one of our main mowers breakdown. No failures with main mowers so less than 50 hours now.

With 38 HP nothing seems to load the engine down. Starts easy for the one time per week mow from May to October. When purchasing it I was concerned with fuel consumption being high with a 999 cc 38 HP engine but with the fuel injection system it seems to keep fuel consumption on par with our 23 HP carb fed Kawasaki.

What oil and change interval are you using? We use Mobil Delvac 15W-40 CK-4 HDEO with change every fall before storage.

Does your 38 Kohler consume any oil between changes at 1500 hours use?

Take care
I use mobil delvac 1 15w-40. It does consume a little oil. My engine was on the recall list where kohler completely replaced the engine. So i have an engine just sitting on a crate in my tractor shed if it ever gets too bad. I have a small crankcase leak which I need to replace the pan gasket on. I've repaired several already and its just a PITA to remove that engine. Exmark really shoe-horned that engine in there sideways. I'll replace the valve cover gaskets while its out

A couple 21" Toros from the early 90s, maybe late 80s, not sure. One is a two stroke, the other a 5.5? GTS? Not a personal pace, it's one of the three speed self propelled. These bag the clippings so much better than the newer 22" personal pace jobs- I have one of those too from the mid 00s. Those old 21" toros are getting hard to find though, the deck on one of them is giving up the ghost, and the two stroke has been giving me problems.

Two riders, a craftsman 42" from the mid 00s, and a relatively new John Deere my in-laws gifted when they went into the apartment.
