Frustrating Dealer Experience

Wow ! Just Wow ! You come in for a possible metal in the oil recall notice, and deny a dealer recommended oil change?

That fishing line and hook caught you by the __________. And as far as oil changes on anything and going by the book, yeah they would like that so at the end of warranty time it is hoped it goes caput.

I sure would not have denied that oil change especially at 5K miles, with that recall hanging over my head, new vehicle, I'd be changing it every 5k or so anyway.

Oh and if it is a GDI engine all the more reason to change the oil sooner.

So you got to play the Stupid Games with the dealer and now if something happens be prepared for the Stupid prizes?
You should realize that I had no idea about this TSB and I only got the information about it after I Googled around for it after I got the car back. Gotta give people a little more credit.

OP - you can't win here. Please lay down so we can beat you some more!

I think you made a good move. Further, I think you may want to re-visit the severe service schedule as well. Don't give the dealer a toe-hold to deny warranty. Out of warranty, have at it with HPL or your oil of choosing. I am shocked that they called out the aftermarket filter. And demanded "factory oil". That's ridiculous.

Bottom line is that you brought the vehicle in with a problem and the dealer service folks tried to pretend it was your fault for not having changed the oil and having a low oil level, neither of which was true.
Dishonest dealer service departments are common enough that one only hopes that he visits an honest one when he needs warranty work done.
I recall years ago taking a work fleet Avenger to a nearby Dodge dealer and being told that I should authorize a fuel injector cleaner and that it was recommended.
I declined and asked recommended by whom?
The service writer didn't have an answer.

Changing oil,you or the dealer is pretty cheap thing to do ,especially on a new vehicle. I'M a short tripper, that's considered severe service. On my new vehicle I changed at 8,000 as I was going on a long vacation.I also did an oil analysis, it showed fuel dilution from short trips. After that I started doing 5,000 mile changes,at the dealer, every other, they would get me a sample of oil.My fuel dilution problem, went away according to Polaris Labs.I had a 6 year-72,000 mile warranty on my 2019 VW Tiguan as that car was purchased in the Diesel Gate era.I wanted a paper trail for warrenty, and I did analysis for my confirmation that the way I personally drive,I shouldn't do VW's 10,000 mile services.I still have the car,I feel like I crossed my tees, dotted my I's,kept all my paper work.Oil analysis is so much more exact than visual, like doing blood draw. Each owner drives differently, there is no correct answer for each person. Its up to you to figure out what works for you. Join a forum on your vehicle to learn, knowledge is power.Service advisors, and not 'ALL' will throw different pitches to test you!As a vehicle owner, you make YOUR decisions. It sounds like that dealer tested you a bit,and if you must, change dealers.Good luck
