Use: 2004 Camry - 210k miles - routine sedate mixed city/highway use, with full synthetic oil, no oil consumption - usual OCI 5k miles

AAP is currently clearing out the Fram Force 3600 (I believe identical to TG) oil filter - currently markdown @2.50
Amazon currently has the PurolatorOne 20195 on markdown @2.75

Both of these are rated for 15k miles, have silicon anti-drain valve, syn-blend media, and both are oversized filters which fit the Camry (I have used before).

I know that there are better filters out there and there are also lower grade filters out there. But between just these two - which one would you choose for the above use case and reason for it.

I understand that both these brands have recently had some issues, and don't need it right away, but at this price, figured I might get a couple as reserve. Any reason to hold off?

Any known reason that these two are on clearance?

Buy as many as you can of both filters. The local store likely only has one or two in stock. Both are solid.

The One. I got good ones, PL14477for a 4 cylinder. Fram it depends what they did to that version, recently they have been cost cutting and making basic design errors.

I would get Purolator. I've been using their filters (PureOne) for about 10 years (back in the days) with very good results.

The Force and TG use fiber end caps, so that helps the leaf spring/bypass valve assembly piece seal well on the end cap. Flip a coin. ;)
The 3600 is a longer 3614, so it depends if they changed the 3600 to a leaky adbv poorly made ecore or not, like they did to the 3614.

Both would be very good but I won't buy a Puro online anymore because the louvers could be open or awful and I want to check first. The Force is probably older stock and will have holes, Tough Guard good stuff.

Then he can look down the center tube to verify if it's Ecore or not if there's an AAP store close by. Otherwise roll the dice or by a filter that can be inspected before buying.

This TG was $7.17 … whilst I did not zoom in - the spring was “coined” into the fiber end cap all around and deep …

I got some Pure Ones and the louvers weren't open enough to my liking so returned.

The Fram Force looks a lot like the old Champ XL which I really liked, but I wouldn't trust anything from Fram / First Brands anymore. Maybe under the next owner.

Honestly there are far better choices for not a lot of money. If you I were looking to go cheap I would do one of the standard Premium Guard variants - they run like 3 or 4 bucks depending on which version. Rock Auto has the XL version of that filter for like $5 - is what I am running on my toyota.
