This might have been addressed before, but I am having a heck of a time finding the info..

Would it be safe to assume that all lines of Fram spin on filters share the same components with the exception of the media elements? ie can, bypass, leaf springs, ADBV's etc.

***I realize the EG has the nitrile rubber ADBV, while the TG and Ultra have silicon.. not too sure about the HM filter though. Anyways I will hopefully have an EG and a HM filter cut open and posted with about 4000 mile OCI's for you guys within the month.

No.

The baseline Fram oil filter is a pleated cellulose media cylinder glued to two fiber disks at either end.

The top of the line Fram oil filter uses stamped metal disks at either end of wire-backed synthetic media cylinder.

The rest of the Fram oil filters are variations on these two designs.

I specified with the exception of the media elements.

And I described the design differences, including the wire backing on the media.

I would say that falls under the media category.. wouldn't you?

Your question and followup comes across, to me, as "are all Fram filters the same except for the things that are different?"

What are you trying to get at, exactly?

I am only curious about the internal components such as the leaf spring and bypass. Are those the same?

If I didn't make my long description, someone like junior up there would tell me the different media used in the stated filters.. obviously didn't help though.

Maybe a little too much. I need to play nicer.

Well oil filters don't have many internal components.

So you are asking if the leaf spring and bypass are the same in all Fram filters?

Yes sir.

OP, I guess we won't know for sure until you cut them apart and take pictures.

I would venture a guess that the TG and Ultra cans are made of a heavier gauge steel while the OCOD and Honeywell are a lighter gauge.

To me it stands to reason that the bypass valves are different. One is designed to be attached to a metal end cap and the other to cardboard.

They undoubtedly share parts, but probably not across the entire line up. The Ultra and TG may share one part while the Honeywell, OCOD and TG share another.

Maybe you will get his official statement soon.

Who is that?

Motorking, Jay Buckley.

I'd say yes, the bypass valve and leaf spring is the same in all Fram filters ... it only makes sense that they would be so Fram only had to make one set of parts. The ADBVs may be the same size and shape, but made of different materials (nitrile vs silicon).

I suppose I could cut them open, but I just assumed someone else already has. It makes sense to me to use the same spring and bypass, but i could also see them being different depending on the level of filter. IIRC, the napa silver vs the gold is different.

I posted in a above thread a Fram link that has drawings of the all the internal parts. Ask a question, you get help from Fram web site and you ignore it or the post and just keep rehashing the same questions and guesses with at least 6 different posts since the link was posted. Hilarious. Oh well.
