I posted in a above thread a Fram link that has drawings of the all the internal parts. Ask a question, you get help from Fram web site and you ignore it or the post and just keep rehashing the same questions and guesses with at least 6 different posts since the link was posted. Hilarious. Oh well.

How is this funny?

I was on my phone when I posted this and was unable to get the photos to work. Rather than saying the link didn't work, I figured I could check it once I got home on the PC.

Cmon guys
A question gets asked and with all the brains on here a simple answer cant be found
Dont nitpick it to death
If he had time to go to Frams website and hash through the info to get to the right place I guess he would
But since this should be common knowlege to some on here I thought a proper response was warranted
Anyway,

A response was given in written words that yes they were all the same. That was followed up by the OP stating he could cut filters up to find out. So that throws out your idea or the OP apparently was not reading own thread before posting. If having to click a few times on a provided link and follow up page that clearly shows in diagrams what the O P asked is hashing through the website.... then I was mistaken in thinking otherwise

After I got jumped on for my attempt to be helpful I lost interest.

A visit to the Fram website and a quick search in Google gave me in 10 minutes descriptions, disassemblies, comparisons, and more on each and every Fram oil filter.

It ain't rocket science.

Do you even read my comments or earlier posts for that matter?
My response you quoted was basically me thinking (typing) out loud. An earlier person suggested I cut a few open and take a look.. Im not opposed to that by any means, but i figured id ask because i am sure it has been done before.

Like i said, i couldnt access your link through my iphone. The link itself work, but the photos wouldnt. I am sorry I didnt acknowledge you and shall do that from now on..

Just sounds like you had a bad day yesterday.

I appreciate your input, but you were telling me about the media differences.. which i was already aware off.. and had mentioined in my first post.

The wire backing itself is not media.

I personally do not bite the hand that feeds me.

Lol. You dont feed me. Ive read your comments in my Purolator thread..

What are you trying to get at, exactly?

I guess that would depend on what the car manufacure required.

For insance some oil filters do not have a ADBV and then are the SPIN ON CAN TYPE.. and yes A/C DELCO to FRAM to other brands for the same type of truck would have no ADBV

Like my 2007 INLINE 6 Chevy Trail blazer.. No Oil filter that is made for that exact truck has a ADBV.... Now you can get a filter that fits the truck that might be a lil bigger and it have a ADBV.

So is this what you are getting at?

I know FRAM goes by what the Manufacture says as far as how the oil filter is made.

I seen some guys with FORD Power diesel learn that the hard way... Frams cartridge filter fit perfect, and Motorcraft... but others brands were not the exact same as a far as the cap and few other points.

My question has already been answered. Dont want to post too many more times and make TENDERloin upset again.

Would it be safe to assume that all lines of Fram spin on filters share the same components with the exception of the media elements? ie can, bypass, leaf springs, ADBV's etc.

***I realize the EG has the nitrile rubber ADBV, while the TG and Ultra have silicon.. not too sure about the HM filter though. Anyways I will hopefully have an EG and a HM filter cut open and posted with about 4000 mile OCI's for you guys within the month.

Hello and welcome to the forum, I am the tech director for FRAM
The EG filter and HM filter are the same filter media (80% cellulose/20% synthetic glass) with 95.7 % efficiency@ 20 microns. Nitrile rubber ADBV's, same can thickness, engineered fiber end caps, leaf springs, Nylon 66 bypass valves. The only difference is the additive basket in the HM filter.

The TG filter is essentially the same with the following variations-
Silicone ADBV
Better paint/primer to combat rust and corrosion in the longer OCI
Media is generally 70% cellulose/30% synthetic with a higher synthetic composition in the smaller sizes for more capacity.
99% efficiency@20 microns. Same engineered fiber end caps, same nylon 66 bypass valve.

The Ultra is completely different. The media cartridge is a pleated stainless steel screen with two layers of full synthetic filter media. It is the only synthetic filter in the market with two layers of media. Flanged steel end caps to capture the pleated screen. It also has a leaf spring, silicone ADBV, Nylon 66 bypass along with improved paint/primer on the can so it can resist corrosion on the car for 15k OCI's. All FRAM filters have the wrinkled Sure Grips for easy installation/removal.

I would venture a guess that the TG and Ultra cans are made of a heavier gauge steel while the OCOD and Honeywell are a lighter gauge.

To me it stands to reason that the bypass valves are different. One is designed to be attached to a metal end cap and the other to cardboard.

They undoubtedly share parts, but probably not across the entire line up. The Ultra and TG may share one part while the Honeywell, OCOD and TG share another.

I would very respectfully like to please ask you refrain from calling our EG filter OCOD unless you have documentation that shows it deserves this. FRAM has 3500 employee's in the USA making filters. We appreciate your business and yet many on this forum do not understand they are seen as "experts" to others who are seeking oil filter information. Think about that reference causing a man to loose his job because it stopped someone from buying our product. We stand behind our products 110%, we have been making oil filters for over 80 years and with the combined engineering depts of FRAM and Champion, no filter company has better engineering talent or resources than FRAM.
Thank you in advance.

The springs on the bypass valves are not the same, they are calibrated to provide the OE acceptable bypass pressure. Same with the leaf srings, the tension depends on what can it is in. The Ultra leaf spring has more tension bc the media cartridge is heavier.

Jay,

From being here over the years, the trend is turning toward Fram getting more respect and less and less posters bashing them. There have been years of people not liking the fiber end caps and now seeing that they are beneficial. The OCOD comments are decreasing and people are seeing that the Extra Guard is a fine entry level filter, even though they cost a premium in some stores..... I think they are perfect for the person stuck to the 3k OCI. There will always be haters, but I think Fram is going in the right direction and people are noticing.

As soon as Fram starts using metal end-caps across all their lines, I'll start using them again. I'm simply not paying that much $$$ for a filter to get more cardboard in it.

You show your ignorance here.....Purolator is making a product you might enjoy at the moment.

It is not a cardboard end cap, but a fiber based end cap that seals way better than metal does. The reason the Fram Ultra uses the metal end cap is because it is a METAL backed SYNTHETIC media....
