On a budget, plus doing Auto-RX on two cars. Advance has Formula Shell oil for 78 cents per quart after rebate (until Oct.30th). Searched, but found no info on this oil. Has anyone used this oil, have experiences/info, good or bad?

It's good enough. I've used it before and had no problems. My friend used it for years.
My age will show now, but in the past I used to only use Shell Fire and Ice. Shell has had good oils for both gas and diesel. If it says Shell and I want a good dino, no problem. I am not saying they are the best, just that they will compare favorablly to most and better that some. JMO

Formula Shell is a good product. It is now made with Group II and some Group II+ base stocks. The new formula meets both SM and GF4.

Was the previous version of FormulaShell (SL, GF-3, white bottle w/ blue label) made from group II basestocks as well? I mix it with a qt of Mobil 1 5W30 in my Ford Escape. OCI is 5K.
Yes, the GF-3 SL in the white bottles with the blue labels was Group II.

I remember Fire and Ice from the mid 80’s. They even advertised it on TV. I still think it’s a great name. What better way to market a mulit-weight.
Not sure if any of you buy oil at Costco but my local Costco that has had a trusty supply of 10w30 Chevron oil has now switched to Shell Fire and Ice. Just when I had my change intervals figured out by testing (Blackstone) UOA on my truck and Honda's. darn it. Is this oil as good as Chevron??
Isn't Pennzoil Shell's best oil? Shell next, Quaker St. 3rd, and Wolf's Head 4th in quality?

I would put those four oils in two tiers.

Pennzoil & Quaker Sate
Lower tier
Shell & Wolfs Head

Pennzoil & Quaker State (both Group II+ all weights)
Middle tier:
Formula Shell (Group II & Shell ad pac all weights)
Lower tier:
Wolf's Head (Group II on 5W/20/30 & 10W30 only & std ad pac)

Baveux: There are several, but the main two are the amounts of calcium and moly. Pennzoil has more of both. The Quaker State ad pac is close to the Formula Shell with a different base stock.
When it comes to Shell Canada, all bets are off. I'm not sure what they use in Formula Shell products made in Canada. I've been told it is a slightly different ad pac than Shell US.
