Yeah...I was curious so I went to BJ's tonight too. $29.99 for a case of 12 quarts of FS conventional. The regular price was $23.00 before the coupon came out. They jacked the price up $7.00 to compensate for their coupon and trick people into thinking it's a good deal.

Plus there were a few open cases and I checked the date codes on 2 bottles. One was from May 2009, the other was from August 2009. No thanks, BJ's. They are selling oil that is already a year old at a false discount. That is just plain wrong and a dirty way to do business.

I can go to Walmart and get a good price on any SOPUS oil, if I choose to fight the crowds and deal with the Walmart shopping experience. I can go to Advance right up the street and get 5 quarts of Quaker State conventional and a Purolator filter for $15.00. Factor in the cost of the filter and that is $2.50 per item. Still a good value. And I am pretty sure Advance won't be selling last year's oil either.

Or I can just wait, it's almost time for all the new oil change deals to come out anyway. I know one thing, I won't be buying oil at BJ's.
 
forgot , can use MOTOMASTER for SEARCH . Same as the SHELL . Good results from what I've seen .

the SHELL conventional here is $29.99 for 12 quarts and $26.99 for 6 quarts of synthetic . That's $1.92 a quart for the regular and $3.33 a quart before tax . Still resonable . The boxes we looked at were dated FEBRUARY 2010 > JUNE 2010 . Some 2009s' were mixed in . So you'll need to search through the boxes for newest dated oil . Going to wait to see if PENNZOIL conventional goes on sale for same or less price . If not , will go back and get a case before sale ends JULY 17th .

Who cares if the oil is a year old, Mine sit around at least that long before being used. OIL does not go bad with time. They are all labeled SM so at least they are not that old.

It's in my stash too. AAP was clearing it out in gallons a while back. I took all they had, it worked out to less than $1 a qt, not bad!

Just curious, do you have any understanding as to what the difference is between the Motomaster Supreme, vs the Motomaster F1 conventional? I have 2 jugs of the F1 conventional at home (thought same as Formula Shell) but I wonder what the Supreme is, it looks like a Sopus jug..

The FS datasheet changed between June and August 2008 and It's* not spec'ing ANYwhere near as good as it was. Also, the 5w20 had a pour of -49C now its -33C(!) I ran some 10w30 recently and it was ho-hum I guess ho-hum is better than Blechhhh! but I wont be seeking it out. I was quite the fan of this once sleeper.

This is the kind of comment I found on FS the other night when I was searching posts on it. I believe I will look at Quaker State or possibly Pennzoil conventional. I'd like to switch to a better oil with a better add pack than the house brands I have been using. I like the way my truck runs on Shell gas, and I think my truck would also do well on a SOPUS oil. And I think a better oil will be best for my truck now that it is getting on up there in mileage. It will turn over 131,000 plus a few on my way home today.

I have read good things about Pennzoil Conventional and Quaker State Conventional here. I don't think I will use their HM versions, my truck was a bit sluggish and I took a hit on MPG when I ran Maxlife and Napa brand HM. I am tempted to buy a few of the 5 qts and a Purolator filter for $14.99 at AAP right now but am trying to wait and see what sales on Pennzoil Conventional or Quaker State come out next week. I don't want to run a Purolator filter anyway, I like the Napa Proselect and Carquest Red filters a lot better.

I think for a little extra cost per quart the QS is the better oil. Thanks for keeping this thread alive. I'm not due for my next OCI until August but I want to have whatever oil I switch to on hand before I do.
 
I think O'Reilly still has Mobil Clean 5000 and Havoline on sale for $1.99/qt, fwiw...

I just picked up 15 bottles of the MC5k...
 
We don't have O'Reilley's here. Just AAP, AZ and a small Napa store. We have Carquest too but not in the town where I live. And we have a Walmart too.
 
I stopped at AAP on my way home. The QS conventional and Purolator filter is $12.99, not $14.99 like I thought. That makes it an even better deal, $2.60 per quart for the oil if you don't count the cost of the filter. $2.16 per quart if you do factor in the cost of the filter. Either way, it's still a good deal on one of the better name brand oils with a better add pack.

I didn't buy any of the QS deals at AAP today. Just to satisfy my own curiousity I will probably check the prices at Walmart first. I will probably start stashing the AAP QS deal this weekend though since the sale ends on the 30th. The QS/Purolator deal is a really good price. I have used plenty of Purolator filters before, and they work fine. I checked the one for my truck and it says "Made in USA" right on the side.

And I checked the date codes on a few bottles while I was at AAP today too. 2 QS and 1 FS bottle, they were all made in February and May 2010.

I didn't know that! All my FS is plenty old enough to be "the good stuff"- guess there'll be no need to look for more when my current stash runs out, in 4 yrs or so. :) Too bad though.

use " motomaster engine oil " for a search with GOOGLE . Otherwise not sure .

Absolutely nothing wrong or dirty about that. One-year-old oil is no different than one-month-old oil. Many of us use oil that is several years old, and it's just fine.
 
Absolutely nothing wrong with the current formulation of Formula Shell Oils. They exceed all of the current specs. And I'm sorry, no offense meant, but I will not take oil advise from someone that does not believe modern day oil will not work in his modern day cars.

My 2 cents, I agree with that strategy.
Formula Shell surely would work well enough, but why not use a name brand premium that gives a lot of attention to reputation in the competative oil market.

Pennzoil conventional (and QS) can be had for a pretty reasonable price and will never do you wrong. They sell so much, they can charge a fairly low price and still be as good as any.
