Menards has Formula Shell for $.79 a quart after rebate, and only $.99 a quart before rebate. Is this stuff worth saving $.15-30 cents a quart over Chevron Supreme, Havoline, or Exxon Superflo? I like the idea of a $5.45 oil change for my Tercel! Or how about if I used half cheap Shell and the rest GTX or Havoline or something?

Thanks!

To be honest I haven't seen many UOA's of the Formula Shell oil, so I really can't comment.

But if I were in your shoes, I'd pick the Chevron Supreme. Not only is it cheap ($0.69/qt), the UOA's of this oil are also very good.

I can't dind it locally - where do you buy it?

We have Chevron Supreme at Wal-Mart. A few bottles, not much. But Ive never seen it for $.69 a quart, only $1.14.

Kragen stores here in SoCal have quasi-regular sales on Chevron Supreme (which is quite easy to find around here). I believe the coupon price is $0.99 per quart, with a a mail-in rebate on full-case purchases that brings the final bill down to $0.69 per quart. (OK, call it $0.73 or so after factoring the postage and envelope required to claim the rebate.

I believe such sales are nationally coordinated among the Checker-Schuck's-Kragen stores. However, it seems that Chevron Supreme isn't carried at all C-S-K stores.

If that's the case, I think they also have pretty regular sales on Pennzoil. The structure is generally the same, but (going from memory) the after-rebate price is $0.89 per quart. That still isn't too bad....

We dont have a Checker or Kragen or Shucks here. Autozone, pepboys, napa, carquest in this town.

So is Formula Shell not worth the money?

Of course you'll find a VOA on this oil here at BITOG! VOA Shell Formula (I love this Web site

). I bought a case of 10W30 on sale - same price - at Pep Boys (on the East coast). It's a weak oil but still ok stuff. I'm using it for rinse cycle on a ARX treatment. I think we all should spend the extra $1 and upgrade to the respected oils like Chrevron Supreme, Havoline, Pennzoil, Castrol GTX's etc.
In the meantime, run it to 3k, then change the oil.

I agree. Maybe a good oil for an Auto Rx. Very weak oil.

All the oils you mentioned are the better bargain, because they have better add. packages and can also be run longer.
