For you Redline users, do you like it?

The new GC is also on shelves.

Can you prove the new GC is the old GC?
If it's the same, why was the old green & the new gold?

Ive used redline 5-30 for most of the life in my tacoma and was pretty fond of it but the price didnt justify. I should of used moble one. Currently im using amsoil and plan on using their series 2000 0W-30 and their oversize filter and run it for one year. In the long run ill save money this way.

I am using Redline 5W30 in my Yamaha R1 & so far I am pleased with it. Very smooth shifting & still a nice clear gold color after almost 2000 miles. Good stuff. I got a $hit load from A.A. when they started selling it cheap.

Hmmmm, kinda in a don't know kinda mood. My main objective here is quiet the "rattle" sound in my truck upon start up. I do expect excellent performance and driveability from my truck for as long as I own it which will be for several more years and I just want to ensure it stays that way. Also, Redline is a brand I've never tried before. I've tried M1 and Amsoil both on repeated basis. M1 I'm not real thrilled with, Amsoil is a good oil and I do like it so why not Redline? I want to drain a quart of M1 and mix it up with some 5w40 RL and see how that helps. Thanks again,,,AR

Slightly off-topic...
What model & year of truck?
What oil filter do you normally purchase?

I never said that the new GC is the old GC. That would be illogical. However, there is a VOA of it posted in the GC section that shows that it has the same add pack as SLX LongTec.

See this thread I posted about it earlier

Guys, I really don't want to sound like an ***hole but can we leave GC out of this. Tuong, GC stands for German Castrol. It's Castrol's German version of there 0w30 oil. Was green in color before now supposedly it's gold. We have a forum here dedicated just for this specific oil. Pretty sick huh?

thanks for telling me what gc means. hope all works out with your car. have u seen anyone about the rattling, like mechanic. I wouldnt pay money to get it seen, just say hey to anyone one of yoru mechanic buddies or someone that knows, and ask what that means. and is GC really all that great???

I tried the RL 5W-30 in my 03 Ram with a 4.7L and manual trans. In the engine, I was using Havoline Synthetic 5w-30 previously. Factory fill in the manual trans. Truck only had about 28,000 on it when I tried the Red Line in both the engine and RL "MTL" in the transmission. (I use Purolator filters)
First thing I noticed was the engine sounded very rattly for several seconds after a cold start up when sitting overnight. I also noticed that the engine seemed a lot rougher at all engine speeds. I did not see any increase in gas mileage, (not that I was expecting it). For the transmission, I am even less impressed. Once I changed to MTL, the cold shifting was extremely stiff (although it was smooth) and once the tranny temps warmed up, the trans is hard to downshift without grinding the gears. It will not grind if I allow a significant delay between shifts.

I do not care about if RL's uoa's support a little less wear than something else, it sure does not not sound good in my engine or act even acceptable in my manual tranny. I firmly believe that all modern oils from the most popular manufacturers will do the job intended, some may do it better than others, and I will stick with Havoline Synthetic for this vehicle. In my other vehicle, I like the conventional Citgo. In my big block 68 Mustang, I like the Citgo, Havoline or Chevron conventional oils, it does not like synthetics at all.
I am not at all pleased with the results of RL products in my vehicle. After 3000 miles, I have changed the oil back to Havoline Synthetic and had immediate restoration to the quietness and smoothness of my engine. I will soon change back to either Mopar's OEM manual tranny lube or try Pennzoil Synchromesh, have not decided but may go back to OEM since it shifted so nicely with the factory fill.

Not trying to bash here Ranger, just give you my experience.

it depends, I guess, a lot on the engine.
I had the same problems with GC in my 4.6L Ford that Fuelman had with RL in his truck...a lot of scary noises, so I didn't use GC after that 1st OCI with it.

However, in some engines, GC brings stellar uoa results, and all the good things you want from your car. Trying it out is the best thing to do.
PS/ what kind of car/engine do you have?

I would have to agree with Fuelman, I tried Redline in my Passat with un-exceptional results. It always had a lot of cam chain noise when I first started it in the morning, now with Formula Shell 10w40 it will only make the noise for a split second or sometimes not at all. Overall the engine seems smoother and quieter with no penalty in fuel mileage. I think I will just stay with Dino!!

Have no experience with their engine oil.
Their gear and trans oil though I have used with good success and all 100K+ OCI.

RL makes engines quiter more so, than not. It's a dense oil with alot of additives. You really need to stick with an oil for a few thousand miles before making decisions on it.

I may have not been clear with my post, I have no evidence thst RL is not a great oil, I just like that my car is quieter on start-up with Dino, it makes me feel all warm and fuzy!

Well bottom line is "different strokes for different folks" this implies to engines as well. One engine might like a cheaper synthetic better over RL or something. Same thing with dinos, One engine might like Pennzoil better than Havoline. Also keep in mind too, the engine is no smarter than it's driver so......... I still would like to give RL a shot,,,,AR

RL is a wonderful engine oil. Absolutely superb in a turbo. But soooooooooooo expensive. Bumping $100 a case.

Perhaps in my S60R . . . perhaps. But never in the wife's Chrysler (M1 10w-30 is more than enough).
