Fly Strips

Last weekend I was out in my garage working on my lawn tractor. The flys were terrible and were driving me nuts!!

I remembered as a kid growing up in the 60's and 70's that most folks had fly strips in their garage, shop, porch, etc. They would be FULL of flys in no time. So as soon as I was done I was off to Walmart to get some.

Got some fancy ones with a green and yellow design on them and some of the old fashioned yellow kind.

After over a week with three put up.....NO flys, just a couple of wayward lovebugs on them!!!

Flys are still around just not on the fly strips. Are flys getting genetically smarter so as not to land on the strips(serious question)????

I think you're on to something. I've hung them up in my garage for several years now and other than very few flies, all I've caught is myself if I forget that they're hanging there.

I ran into one as a kid, too. Not fun.

These things had, and have, a terrible reputation in terms of health and safety.

I personally have learned to tolerate, embrace, and even love, flys, etc.

Buy a can of Golden Malrin. Sprinkle it like ice cream sprinkles on whatever they're already feeding on. Watch in fascination as flies freeze up within ten seconds of tasting the stuff.

And don't let any pets near the stuff, as they'll freeze up also!

Just make yourself a fly trap out of an old plastic bottle. Make sure you use a bait that will attract the flies and set it off to the side.

Gorgeous day yesterday … decided to BBQ some baby backs along with local sausage. Here come the flies to ruin the atmosphere … Have had mediocre results with fly strips so grabbed a new to me version …
These come with a crystal bait and worked amazingly fast …
