F150 5.0 Coyote Louder After Valvoline R&P?

Hello all,
Almost exactly 600 miles ago I did an oil change with Valvoline Restore and Protect. I used the 5w30 variety. Within about a hundred miles, I noticed the engine started to make some more noise while warmed up at idle and low speed. Could be a coincidence, but I just wanted to see if anyone knows noise that is typical for the Coyote engine. Prior to this, it was very quiet, albeit I was using 5w20 and Amsoil.

It's a well known phenomenon that heavy sludge build up is a great NVH insulator.
Obviously, after 600 miles of R&P, the engine is now so clean internally it's lost that "quiet" factor ...

(he said, tongue in cheek, baiting the hook to see who bites ... ;))

2015 5.0 was back-spec'd to 5-30 IIRC. I've used Mobil 1 5-30 Fram Ultra almost exclusively in my 15 5.0 with excellent results. Were you looking for cleaning? Or just a good oil?

Looking for cleaning. It currently consumes about 1.5-2 quarts of oil on a 7k OCI.

I have never seen anything where it was back spec'd. The new 5.0 with cylinder deactivation (in I think 2021) specs 5W30. I am running 5W30 in my 2019 and I haven't noticed much difference from OW20 for what it is worth. They are a somewhat noisy engine even when all is right.

I doubt that there is much to clean if you were running Amsoil SS anyway.

If you’ve used Amsoil SS for any decent amount of time I don’t believe there will be much to clean. I ran it in my outback for awhile before switching to HPL and didn’t notice much difference in filter goo compared to my truck, which never ran SS. YMMV

R&P is supposed to suspend what it removes, not load the filter.

Did your truck always have HPL? or are you saying you switched from R&P to HPL?

I’ve only owned the truck since 105k, so unsure of oil changes prior. Using R&P as a troubleshooting tool to see if oil consumption is from stuck rings vs cylinder damage. If not stuck rings, I’ll just run non-boutique oils for 5k OCIs and call it a day.

Ford engines are just noisy, no? Lol My 3.5 EB sounds like a high pitched diesel, my 4.6 2v like a sewing machine. A lot of clack clack clack more than any Toyota I've experienced

If the noise really is normal, I’m perfectly fine with that. The noise doesn’t bother me, I just rather catch something before it lets go if there is a failure.

My 04 Expedition 5.4l 2v always had noisy injectors unless I ran tcw3 2 stroke oil in the gas. Since you are consuming oil, I'd keep the VRP and add some tcw3 2 stroke oil, 1oz/5gal and see.

I'm coming from a 2004 5.4 F150 and I didn't have any top end issues. Truck went to 220k+ before the friend I sold it too sold it as well. It sure was loud (mostly injectors). My 15 has always made some noise. Interested to hear your final decision and results. Mine has only seen Mobil 1 0-20 and 5-30. No difference in engine noise or fuel economy for mine. Wish you well.

I get that. I used HPL though and in the case of the truck, had bits in the filter while the car did not. I was referencing the Amsoil.

No it had ST, Kirkland Sig, before they whatever Walmart off-the-shelf that was on sale. Has never had R&P.

Solid plan!
