Euro specialized indy-mechanics all seem to use LiquiMoly?

They can't beat the WalMart price of $26.44 per 5 quart jug for Euro L.

Edit: just checked WalMart's website and Euro L is out of stock. I may go with Mobil 1 ESP for my next oil change. $27.97/ 5 qt.
I was also looking at the price of ESP but my local euro shop a short walk from the house is doing $50 oil changes with LM 5w40. Decisions, decisions.

I have always put Liquimoly in the same category as Royal Purple. The hype of both is greater than the actual quality.
I like the Motor Oil Saver and Ceratec and thats it. As for RP, only the HMX or HPS line. That overpriced Dexos Walmart shelf waster is nothing to write home about and or waste a stamp on.

Motul, unlike LM, does offer ester based products.
LM also offers unique oils, I mean if you look at amount of heavy paraffinic base oils.

Funny, my car has a LM PAO Based - Fullsynthetic according to german law! - in the crankcase.
In contrast, Motul was sued in Germany because they Print "Vollsynthetisch" on their jugs wich only contained Group III oil.... And they lost on court and where force to print the thruth on the jugs.
But, yeah, Motul is "Ester based". What a fine marketing buzzword. How much ester does it contain? 1% ? 50%? 0.5%? 65%?

And dont forget, LM causes oil consumption. But, strangely, i dont know about one case of oil consumption with LM, and i asked people out of curiosity.

But of course, as LM ist the best selling and Nr. 1 Brand here since a decade, everybody continues to use it becasue it gives you problems. NOT.

There is no need for quotations. Motul offers ester based oils.
Nr. 1 Brand here since a decade,
So is McDonald's No. 1 food chain. But, you know....

Lot of “too cool for school” folks here. I have been using LM as my preference, especially when dealing with persnickety oil grade info… (VW and BMW).

I like Lm

I've met the US CEO for LM, a nice guy and surprisingly young. But yes, they are great at marketing from YouTube car channels to indie shops and so forth.

The local indie shop my parents use runs pretty much all things Liqui Moly, as they were a BMW shop first. For instance, my Dad's Yaris hatchback got a full service yesterday- LM Special Tec AA SAE 5w30 oil with a Hengst filter, LM SL6 DOT 4 brake fluid, and LM Top Tec ATF 1800. Frankly, LM is probably overkill for the 1.5 Yaris haha.

I will admit, when I was in my teen years, I thought Liqui Moly 5w40 in those 5L purple jugs I picked up at the euro parts store was pretty cool to run for my BMW 😅

My EA888 always consumed oil with LM. The only PAO we get here is Synthoil Premium, which appears to be very mediocre. Noack is too high for modern approvals.

They have some PAO oils as they can’t go around it. In 5W40 flavor, it is race to the bottom. Similar to Castrol 5W40, just enough.
Company I worked for supplied them base oils, wouldn’t be surprised they still do.

LiquiMoly is a great case study in how far a cool name gets you in marketing.

It is definitely a catchy name, and, as @edyvw pointed out, it says MADE IN GERMANY.

That seals the deal for most people, even car guys, who just may not be oil nerds who peruse BITOG all day like us.

And the fact that they have good marketing towards the tuner scene and good prices means that quite a few of the Japanese and Korean car tuner guys have also become become LiquiMoly disciples.

I mean, it’s an OK oil and I’d run it if you gave it to me, but I see no advantage to using it in place of ESP. Unless you want to do the whole FCP Euro thing. Which, a lot of people don’t want to fool with.

If I ever felt like Castrol wasn't more than adequate for my engine oil needs, I would use Ravenol. I do use Ravenol for my differentials.
Before you jump on that wagon, you may want to see how poorly Ravenol DXG performed in my 3.5 EcoBoost. It thinned out of grade and was all but used up by 6k miles. For $100/oil change back in 2020, there's no way it was worth it. YMMVBIDI
