My trans builder, DTT has recommended Dexron 3. He specifically told me not to use ATF 4.
Quote (Dexron III is the most aggressive fluid & ATF4 has friction modifiers that will cause the modified trans to slip)
OK heres my question
Schaeffer's all trans & also Amsoil atf both claim they meet the spec for both Dexron III & ATF4.
I'm afraid to try the Schaeffer's in fear that it might cause modded trans to slip.

Is this transmission being used for racing (I am assuming this is an Automatic)?

If so, you would need a Type F.

DexIII is friction modified but not as aggresively as MerconV and ATF+4.

What did your builder do to the modified transmission that would require a DexIII rather than the ATF+4?

Billet flex PLATE, BILLET imput , intermediat,& output shafts, Performance Valve Body with Gaskets and Band Anchor.

Performance Torque Converter

PMI Trans pan

4.4 ratio lever

Custom Clutches

Upgraded from 4 clutch pack to 5 clutch pack

High energy 2nd gear band

2nd gear band strut

Billet Piston

Front Servo

Accumulator Piston

2004.5 dodge cummins 600 hp 1100+ torque, Twin Turbos, High lift cam,& DDP injectors

In that case I would go with a plain-jane DexronIII with a mineral-oil base.

And change fluid at around 15k miles.

Thats good news, I found more info on the DTT forum, Bill states many of his customers are running Amsoil with good results.

Run my Dodge Cummins pickup on mountain passes and roads as a daily driver - no slippage with #204SAT. Engine modified with F1 Mach 2 injectors, CATCHER, Dodgezilla 14cm/WG Turbo, 4 inch exhaust with Aeroturbine muffler, AEM DryFlow Air Filter while transmission is full DTT (minus billet shafts) & 89% Torque Converter. Schaeffer's #204SAT tech sheet - http://www.schaefferoil.com/datapdf/204SAT.pdf .

There you go doug60, seriously, try each one for 10k and report back to us regarding shift quality, shudder, etc.

BTW, we also have a type F that can be tweaked for a particular transmission.

My Bad
There was some confusion, the fluid recomended is Dexron III not Dexron III. This is my first auto.
racer12306 thanks, doug
