Does Vice Grip Garage not know anything about Fram oil filters?

He pulled a silver Fram off a Thunderbird and basically was saying Fram is the worst thing ever and to only run Wix.
From what I understand the Toughguards (silver) and ultrasynthetic (gold) filters are very respectable.
You have to wonder what Wix is paying him.

I used to hate the OCD. After seeing the ole OCD go for 800 and 900 hours on neglected Kubotas anywhere from 3 to 6 years more than once I can't say much bad about them.

He seems like an OK guy, but I wouldn't put too much stake in someone who doesn't know the difference between gross and net HP.

To be fair he does include a warning

I think a guy just likes Wix filters. He also uses their fuel filtres. I can’t tell if he’s sponsored by some brands or not. He often uses Rotella oil, but also sometimes Valvoline VR1, and sometimes O’Reilly (they do sponsor him) oil. They all have the vitamins and dinosaurs the engine needs anyway.
And I ain’t kidding ya’

No idea who that is, but Fram is well known as being junk. Maybe improved since the 90s, but I won't use them.

Well, I'd say you're just as uninformed as the VGG individual.

It is just nearly irresponsible to label any brand as "junk" or "best" these days. Fram has been known to make some excellent filters not long ago ... The XG and TG were rightfully respected.

However, nothing stays the same. They've had issues, just like the rest of the filter market. Supply chain issues as well as corporate penny-pinching have nearly ruined the faith of the BITOG collective. The current darling is the CQ Premium, but if you give it enough time, that too shall pass.

Spend some time perusing the filter forum here and look at the failures from all the various brands. It's quite obvious there exists a need for some consistency from the general marketplace.

Vice Grip Garage has been using Wix filters since he was just a guy working on cars in his garage and uploading it to YouTube. I've been watching Derek since before the persona and shtick became a thing. I've seen him use other filters over the years. STP, Motorcraft, Napa.

Most of the junk he works on, a Wix filter is the least of the vehicles issues.

Granted there is a range of the quality of filters. I would assume calling one brand junk is over the top as I imagine it wouldn't fail and probably do an adequate job of filtering the motor oil for most applications.

100%

I think most of us here have an unreasonable amount of filter fear, otherwise known as the UAOFF.
