Dodge Challenger's 5.7-Liter V8 Hemi To Be Replaced By Inline Six

They won't drop a V8 for the I-6, no way. However the 4.0L I-6 updated to circa 2019 would be very interesting, especially in a Wrangler platform.

Don't knock the I6. Mopar, BMW, Toyota, Ford, GM and to a lesser extent Nissan(since the RB series never made it to American shores) all made very good examples of the breed.

But why not call it the Slant 6?

Lesser extent Nissan? Seems you've forgotten the L-series engines.

Is there a bad I-6?

That I did forget - but my reason for a lesser emphasis on Nissan is because they decided to focus all 6-cylinder efforts for the US with the VG30E(T)(i) in the 1980s after the 260/280Z. The RB series was purely a Japanese thing unless you managed to buy a front clip for a Skyline or even bring over an intact one.

Years ago, Daewoo made an I6 for some obscure Suzuki that got a lukewarm reception.

OK now, stay with me on this.

Chrysler called one V6 the "Pentastar", no?

They should call a new I6 the "Sex-star!".

It was hot for its time. Had a bud in college had one in a tempist with 5.13 gears and G6014 rear tires drag shocks. Factory quadrajet, if tuned correctly, it was as fast as anything then in the 1/8 mile.

Good for street racing, 6 cy sound, many times I stood on a street corner with 2 or 4 20's. Once Had to run and dive in the car thru the open window as the losing car made it back first. Drag shocks DO NOT corner.

Ever see a Hemi head slant 6. Also Australian.

When I think of a growly I6 sound, I think of Pontiacs, Jeeps, and Jaguars. The Mopars were quiet and unassuming.

I also like the inline sixes; all but 4 of my BMWs have had them, as does my Wrangler. That said, a pony car equipped with anything other than a V8 is just wrong.
